🌏 Kooyong Members Shine in Hong Kong! 🇭🇰🏆

Several Kooyong members recently competed in the Endowus Wealth Hong Kong Masters Open at the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC), one of Kooyong’s reciprocal clubs, taking on some of the region’s best age-group players.

⭐ The standout result came from Kim Graham, who claimed the Women’s 35+ title, defeating Li Leanne Gi-Ming in the final to go one better than her runner-up finish last year. A fantastic achievement!

Also representing Kooyong were:

👏 Richard Bowman – 4th place in the Men’s 70+ division

👏 Toby Tomlin – Quarter-finalist and 7th overall in a highly competitive Men’s 50+ draw

👏 Fr Abanoub Attalla – Represented Kooyong in the Men’s 60+ division

Congratulations to all four players on representing Kooyong so proudly on the international stage🇦🇺💙💚

A big week for Kooyong Squash & Racquetball, with two Kooyong pennant teams crowned Grand Final winners🏆

Congratulations to our E2 side, captained by Jim Pappas, and our D1 side, captained by Russell Jansen, who both won their Grand Finals this week.

A big congratulations to all players involved, and thank you to our captains for all their hard work throughout the season.

Well done teams - a great result for Kooyong 👏💙💚

Last night was a very special evening at Kooyong as we officially opened the Bert Armstrong OAM Court.

Formerly Court 6, the court has now been named in honour of Bert Armstrong OAM and his outstanding contribution to Kooyong and the wider squash community.

It was a fantastic night, with more than 70 people in attendance to celebrate Bert and recognise the incredible impact he has had on both squash and Kooyong over many years.

The room was filled with many of the people who have shaped squash at Kooyong, including past and present squash committee members, past and present Kooyong Presidents and Board members, World Champions Sarah Fitz-Gerald AM and Vicki Cardwell, Kooyong Living Treasure Cedric Mason AM, and so many valued members of the broader squash community.

Thank you to Sam Ejtemai for MCing the evening, and to Chris Purbrick and Jeremy Sneddon for sharing such kind and fitting words.

We were also honoured to have Sarah Fitz-Gerald, five-time World Champion, officially open the court before Bert hit the first squash ball on the newly named Bert Armstrong OAM Court.

A truly memorable night for Bert, his family, friends, fellow members and the wider Kooyong and squash communities.

Congratulations Bert - a wonderful and very well-deserved recognition 👏

A special night at Kooyong this Tuesday ✨

On Tuesday 2 June, Kooyong will recognise Bert Armstrong OAM for his outstanding contribution to the Club and the wider squash community, with the official naming of the Bert Armstrong OAM Court.

Members, guests and friends of Bert are warmly invited to join us from 5:30pm in the Sir Norman Brookes Room, before the official court unveiling at 6:00pm.

The evening continues from 6:30pm with a fantastic night of pennant squash, as Kooyong hosts the B1, C1, E1 and F Grade Club Circuit Grand Finals.

The bar in the Sir Norman Brookes Room will remain open after the court ceremony and throughout the pennant matches, so come down, enjoy a drink, watch some great finals squash and celebrate a special moment in Kooyong squash history.

A big congratulations and good luck also to our Kooyong grand final teams:

👏 E2, captained by Jim Pappas, playing tonight at the Mulgrave Country Club
👏 D1, captained by Russell Jansen, playing Tuesday night at the Grace Park Hawthorn Club

Both teams finished the home and away season on top of the ladder - a fantastic achievement.

We’d love to see plenty of Kooyong members, guests and squash supporters at the Club on Tuesday night to celebrate Bert and enjoy a great evening of finals squash.

Huge weekend of junior squash at Kooyong as we hosted the Junior Silver event in partnership with Squash Victoria 👏

A fantastic tournament with strong performances from our Kooyong juniors:

🥇 Tina Ma – U19 Girls Winner
🥈Ketan Porwal – Runner-Up in both U17 & U19 Boys
💪 Zuke Althaus – 5th place in U19 Boys

We also had several of our emerging junior squad players competing in their very first Silver-level tournament:

👏 Andrew Kou
👏 Jasper Zhang
👏 Hannah Zhang

It was great to see so many young players representing Kooyong with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and determination across the weekend.

The future of Kooyong squash is looking bright😊

William “Bill” Dubsky (1944–2026)

It is with great sadness that the Kooyong community shares the passing of William “Bill” Dubsky.

Bill was a cherished and longstanding member of Kooyong, joining in 1965 and becoming a fifty-year member.

A passionate squash player, Bill competed in over 800 pennant matches for Kooyong, placing him fourth on the club’s all-time games list. He was also a keen tennis player and a familiar face around the club, often spending time in the gym and pool, staying active and connected with the community.

In his professional life, Bill worked as a financial planner and was deeply committed to helping others improve their financial wellbeing.

Bill will be greatly missed by his many friends at Kooyong and throughout the wider squash and tennis community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Jane and the entire family.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a service at St Michael’s Ashburton on 7 May at 11am, followed by a celebration at Riversdale Golf Club at 12:30pm.

Chris Harris and Ben Baker recently competed at the 2026 Chieng Mai Jumbo Doubles Squash Tournament (30 April-3 May), one of the longest-running squash events in the world, hosted by the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.

Played on a larger than usual doubles court with four players, jumbo doubles requires strong teamwork and positioning…something Ben discovered quickly at the front of the court dodging a few shots😅

Up against a strong international field in the Masters division, they finished runners-up in the Plate - an awesome result.

A fantastic event bringing together players from across Asia and Australia, with great hospitality throughout.

Chris and Ben were also warmly hosted during the week by Kooyong reciprocal club, The British Club and highly recommend the trip for anyone considering entering next year!

Our Kooyong (1) team, captained by Jennie Easson, has made the SSL Open D Grade final 💪

They take on Monash University tonight, 7.30pm at Westerfolds for the flag.

While we don’t yet know the final line-up (with only 3 players competing per round), the team across the season has been:
Mark Stretton, Adriana Zuccala, Fiona Zuccala, Jennie Easson (c) and Sarah Porritt
