Yesterday was a reminder that golf builds lifelong connections. Chalambar women travelled to Willaura Golf Club to continue the annual tradition of a “Friendly” between the two clubs. Sadly, with dwindling numbers at Willaura, this was probably the last of these events. Willaura’s hospitality was, as always, amazing. A welcoming cuppa, composite teams for an Ambrose, plenty of laughs out on course and a delicious lunch/ afternoon tea in the clubhouse warmed by a roaring open fire.
Presentations were made to the best teams, including magnificent bouquets put together from local gardens! Sue Maconachie was on hand to congratulate the winners, representing the McCarthy family who started this day and sponsored it for many years when it was played as the McCarthy Salver.
A special touch were the “booby biscuits” that everyone took home - a nod to the proceeds of the day being donated to the the Blue Ribbon Foundation Ararat Branch’s Mammography Unit project.
The only sad moment of the day was when both clubs farewelled Ruth Gellert who is moving to Ballarat. Ruth has been a very active member of both clubs for many years, taking on roles in administration, representing the district in numerous events and also achieving individual golfing success. She will be greatly missed.
