Yesterday was a reminder that golf builds lifelong connections. Chalambar women travelled to Willaura Golf Club to continue the annual tradition of a “Friendly” between the two clubs. Sadly, with dwindling numbers at Willaura, this was probably the last of these events. Willaura’s hospitality was, as always, amazing. A welcoming cuppa, composite teams for an Ambrose, plenty of laughs out on course and a delicious lunch/ afternoon tea in the clubhouse warmed by a roaring open fire.
Presentations were made to the best teams, including magnificent bouquets put together from local gardens! Sue Maconachie was on hand to congratulate the winners, representing the McCarthy family who started this day and sponsored it for many years when it was played as the McCarthy Salver.
A special touch were the “booby biscuits” that everyone took home - a nod to the proceeds of the day being donated to the the Blue Ribbon Foundation Ararat Branch’s Mammography Unit project.
The only sad moment of the day was when both clubs farewelled Ruth Gellert who is moving to Ballarat. Ruth has been a very active member of both clubs for many years, taking on roles in administration, representing the district in numerous events and also achieving individual golfing success. She will be greatly missed.

With Winter done, footy / netball nearly finished and a good round of golf just round the corner, it is time to dust off the clubs and get back into it.
Yesterday was typical Spring weather - four seasons in one day (or one hour!).
No plans for the AFL public holiday (Friday Sep. 25)? Round up some friends and enter the Footy Ambrose. More details to follow.

After more rain overnight and this morning, a decision has been made to protect the course. CARTS CANNOT BE USED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
If you rely on a cart to get around maybe think about walking and playing 9 rather than a full 18 holes. 9-hole events are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Despite the heavier course there has been some impressive play in recent women’s events.
The plovers have been nesting on the 4th hole. Some chicks have hatched so expect the parents to be protective if you get too close.

During winter, when some golfers disappear to their fires or warmer climates, the world of fungi takes their place. All sizes, colours and shapes They are more obvious to us golfers who spend quite some time off the fairways and among our beautiful trees.

Enjoyable afternoon at the club. Past players were welcomed for a tour of the course and then coffee and cake in the clubhouse. There were plenty of stories and memories as everyone pored over the photo albums from their time playing. These women paved the way for the current players and we appreciate the time they devoted to Chalambar. Wonderful to have 98 year old Alice and 96 year old Frances join us - what role models they are!
Thanks Nola for your organisation.

The 2026 Forbes Cup tournament is done and dusted. Camperdown have taken out the title in an exciting one stroke win (295 - 296) over Eastern GC.
In stark contrast to yesterday the weather was kind with blue sky and sunshine. Individual winners are listed in the photos.
There were many comments on how improved the course was from last year - thanks go to the ground staff. We are well and truely “open for business” and look forward to further developments on course and in the clubhouse.

What a day! Cold but dry for the first 12 holes or so but then it turned. Strong wind and driving rain. Just as well golfers are a tough lot!
The 4BBB event of the Forbes Cup was held today and, given the conditions, results were surprisingly good.
As usual there was an army of Chally volunteers in the clubhouse and out in the elements. Thank you everyone.
Here’s hoping for better conditions tomorrow!

The latest member of the Chalambar Hole-In-One club is Meri White who achieved the feat on the 4th hole on Wednesday.
This was a highlight of the club's annual cancer research "Pink Day".

A significant amount will be forwarded to the Fiona Elsey Research Institite as a result of the day.
Many thanks to the trophy sponsors, Joy Cronin and Heather Hevey, who continued their long-standing support of this event. Thanks also to donors of raffle prizes, Growmaster Ararat, We're Knot Crazy, Priceline Pharmacy and the Graham family.
The Produce stall was absolutely laden with goodies - all donated by the generous Chalambar women - thank you one and all!
