When you are in the process of changing your lifestyle to help reach your goals it will take some time to see physical results. It is not a quick fix or overnight process and all the things that you are doing add up. Stay focused on the process knowing that what you are doing is going to benefit in many ways including physically and improving your fitness.

If a workout plan, exercise machine or diet claims that ‘all the hard work is done for you’, 100% effective(when done under a professional supervision), minimum effort, max gain etc. the chances are that it’s too good to be true. Most diets and exercises will work if you are consistent and have accountability to stick to it, but there is no quick fix. Changing your lifestyle can be daunting but it doesn’t need to be drastic and cut out all the things you enjoy in life. Working for the things you are passionate about is worth the struggle. Don’t devalue yourself by taking the easy option.

Fitspo can have a positive or a negative impact on you. Messages that promote more restriction, more effort and less pleasure for the longterm gain of your goals can have an negative impact on you. There is power in determining what you do not want in your life and what you do want. If you really want to be healthier, saying to yourself that enough is enough and I want to make a change is a positive step. If messages that remind you of the bigger picture help you then it can be positive, but long term change needs more than just fitspo messages, it requires commitment and support as well as determining what you need and want to be healthy both mentally and physically. The fitspo that inspires me is what reminds me of how I want to improve, the people who achieve more than they or others would have thought and that which promotes values I care about, such as learning from your experiences, self belief and becoming the person I want to be. Take inspiration from those that empower you and inspire you to improve.⠀

I have just started on a new phase of my weightloss and fitness goals. After gaining 15 kgs in just under a year due to medication and hormone imbalance I have stopped the medication and am balancing my hormones naturally. I started on this medication because I was having difficulty with my hormones and while it helped initially the weight gain and other side effects were causing more problems and making it extremely difficult to lose weight. Since starting on my weightloss in 2015 I have built up to exercising 6 days a week, improving my strength and improving my diet. When looking into different options for medications I was aware of the risks of gaining weight, but both myself and my doctor were sure that because I had changed my lifestyle and was exercising and eating healthily I should not have major problems with weight gain. I maintained my exercise and healthy eating while I was on the medication. Since stopping the medication over the last 2 weeks I have started to see a shift in my measurements and a small drop on the scales. I believe that many people struggle to lose weight because their hormones are affecting the ability to lose weight. I have been through the struggle of doing everything ‘right’ but not seeing any results. Medication also caused more weight gain for me and while I am not anti-medication I believe that it is important to find a solution that is good for you. Asking questions, doing research and finding what works best for you is so important. Medications work differently for different people and it is important to acknowledge that there can be underlying causes of why you are not losing weight. If you have concerns about this it is worth investigating and looking after your health. There are solutions to these problems and the benefits go far beyond weightloss. I will be sharing updates on my progress, in the hope that others who may be struggling can find solutions and encouragement to not give up. ⠀
