Tough decision but one that has been coming for a while.
With months of deep thought and in depth conversations with key people in the fight community, I have made a raw and difficult decision to retire the Supajai Gym on Stradbroke Island effective June 1st.
I have given my absolute everything to this gym and our community here on Straddie and feel this journey with the gym here on the island has served it's purpose and in reality this is no longer serving me.
I am going to spend the remainder of this year working and doing my own training on the mainland and enjoying the weekends at home on Straddie down the beach hanging out with my boy Prince.
In the future I would like to hold pads in a gym somewhere and contribute to the growth of other peoples fighter's and gyms. That way I can continue to spread the Quandamooka Cup Su***de Prevention message in our fight community and also still enjoy being part of the sport that has been my entire life for 30 years now. The Quandamooka Cup message will remain strong for the benifit of everyone's mental health within our fight community. I'm leaving my options open for opportunities to help out in other gyms.
I have a few obligations to complete here on Straddie with a couple of seminars and our mental health sparring day in May. Hence why I will close the doors on June 1st and put an end to 20 years of pure authentic muay thai on North Stradbroke Island.
I would like to send a heartfelt thankyou to the Amity Point Social Cricket Club for allowing us to use their space and also supporting our gym in ways unimaginable. You guys have been the reason we have continued to serve this community for the last 2 years.
To the local businesses and organisations including the North Stradbroke Island Police Services and the Dunwich State School I can never ever repay you all for what you have all contributed to help me run and maintain this gym.
To our sponsors both in and out of the fight industry, I am truly blessed to have had your unconditional support over the years.
To our wonderful island community, I am enormously greatful for the incredible memories over the last 2 decades. I've shared some of the best moments in life training all of you.
To all the gyms and the promotors who have welcomed us as guests and put us on your shows, we are incredibly greatful for every opportunity given to us to put our island mob amongst the best of the fight community.
To my family and friends who have supported/put up with my s**t over the last lifetime of years, I love you's and am eternally greatful for each of you keeping it real for me on this long and sometimes lonely journey.
To my 2 little angel nak muays up above Jai and Mitch, I know the both of you would be supportive of this decision from heaven above.
Thankyou for the memories Straddie, See you all May 27th when we have our final hoorah for our little island gym all in support of a great cause.
