😃We have a game this Wednesday at 6pm in Alyangula instead of our usual training !! The game will have an AFL NINES format, being non contact, using our soft touch ball and 2x 20min halves.

🎙Attention all Juniors...

😎This Thursday evening in Alyangula we will have a Junior AFL Night game in celebration of the great Junior Engagement over the last year and the Royal Darwin Show Long weekend.
​
💪The game will be a mixed event for Juniors between 8-14yo , with the format being 4x 15 min quarters and a controlled tackling contact.
​
🌭Sausage sizzle, lollies, drinking water and AFL Jumpers provided
​

📅2) UPDATE on Groote Eylandt AFL Programs effective COB 25th July 2024.

"After a rewarding and inspiring year leading our AFL programs on Groote Eylandt, I am saddened but equally excited to share that I will be transitioning into a new role within AFL NT, as the Regional Development Lead (Top End), based in Darwin".
​
"The continuous support and enthusiasm from everyone here, coupled with the progress we've made developing AFL programs has been unbelievable. The memories created, the relationships formed, and the achievements attained will stay with me as I move forward in my career. Working here has been nothing short of fulfilling and I am eager to bring the knowledge and experience I have gained here to contribute to our remote program initiatives across the top end".

"I will be working closely with AFL NT to ensure a speedy recruitment, smooth transition and seamless handover. My main priority over the last few weeks and beyond is to leave behind a solid foundation for the continuation and growth of our AFL programs, specific to Groote Eylandt".
​
"This will be my final week as the current Remote Development Manager , but please feel free to reach out in this next phase with any questions or future program improvements for the next Remote Development Lead to take on".

😎Please note some key changes :

- No programs on Friday due to Darwin Show Public Holiday!
- Womens AFL Game on Wednesday night at Alyangula Oval!
- Junior AFL Game on Thursday night at Alyangula Oval !

🎙 This Monday at 10am we have a return to school junior AFL game at Alyangula School oval.
​
📌These games will be for juniors aged 8-13yo, and the format will be a controlled contact game of footy, which we usually play at our training sessions.

📆AFL Groote Eylandt Program Calendar this week and next!
​
👍We will be running Junior Alyangula AFL tomorrow (Tuesday) to make up for Thursday sessions that will be missed.
​
😄We will be supporting The Nawarddeken Academy at the Michael Long Learning & Leadership Centre in Darwin the following week from the 17th June- 21st June, so programs have been interrupted slightly this week and will not be running within that time period, thanks for understanding!

🎙️ Part 2 of Reconciliation week!!

✅ We decided to run a junior Friday night game leading into the long weekend and it was an unbelievable showdown with some awesome participation and no shame attitude. We had so many kids in the end we ran out of jerseys, a great problem to have 🤣

💪🏻 Lenny captained his mighty Maroons to a 1 point thriller win, with the game ending 21-20.

🙌🏽A big shoutout to all the parents who came down to support, Alyangula Area School for your participation drive and those who who helped with transport, see you next time !!

🔥A great few weeks of footy for our Reconciliation week AFL action, proudly supported by GEMCO Community.
​
😎An awesome effort from the women on the Thursday night with a high scoring , nail biter of a game, that came down to one kick in the end with the Stingrays taking home the win over the Swans with a score of 57 - 52. Then, on Friday we had an amazing Welcome to Country performed by the Men from Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island Enterprises - GEBIE, followed by an AFL game, with the Stingrays victorious against the Cats with a score of 60 - 38 !

🙌🏽A big shoutout also goes to Anindilyakwa Land Council and Groote Eylandt Aboriginal Trust for their continuous help to make these events run smoothly.
