A big thank you to the 40 new customers who purchased a fire pit kit from me during 2025. However this post is about sailing.
I’m building a small yacht (Scamp) which requires a weight of 22lbs (10kg) of lead to be inverted into the swing down centre board.
The pics show how the lead was melted into a small baking tray on the - ‘myfire.com.au’ - fire pit. This is the heaviest load placed on our fire pit design.
The tray having tapered sides made the the shape was easy to position onto the hole cut into the inner board.
The lead is held in place by an epoxy/sawdust mix then a 6mm layer of marine ply stuck on both sides of the central board.

Next question- how to responsibly dispose of the reside. Use long tongs (closed) across one end while tilting the tray to drain off the liquid. Then tip residue into the garden or rubbish bin and rinse the tray.

People ask - why is there water in the holding tray.
1. Safer as any hot coals can fall into the water
2.water stays cool so there is no burnt patches
3. Fire can be upended using the supplied hooked bars
4. Having a flat bottom, fire can be moved (alight).
5. All waste is quenched out completely
6. Easy to dispose of waste responsibly

We recently displayed at Traralgon outdoor & camping expo.
Storms demolished the marquee but we soldered on. Thank you to the 5 couples who purchased units. On the Sunday a storm came through and demolished the show but even the heavy rain did not put out the myfire.
