A big shout out to Graeme Reilly, the current President of the Altona Historical Homestead and Museum, who was instrumental in the making of the QR walks. In addition to the many volunteer hours Graeme and the historical society contributed with their knowledge and research, we were also fortunate to record many interviews with community inside the homestead.

Did you know that Harrington Square is built on the site of a coal mine? Or that Julia Gillard ran the nation from her home in Altona for a time? Or that the Altona Homestead on Pier street is the oldest homestead on Port Phillip Bay?

These are just some of the stories told along the Hobsons Bay QR Walks paths.

If you live within 5Km of one of the QR paths, break up your locked-down day with a walk around your neighbourhood.

Scan the penguin QR codes and listen to stories that celebrate the diversity, heritage and environment of Hobsons Bay.

If you can't take the walk, you can always listen to the podcasts at home by visiting the website. https://hobsonsbayqrwalks.com.au/qr1/

Narrated by Libby Tanner with contributions from over 50 members of the Hobsons Bay community, the project is proudly auspice by the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre and supported by the Hobsons Bay City Council through its Make It Happen grant program.

In Episode 1 of Hobsons Bay QR Walks we interviewed the delightful Michelle from BORGS CAKES Pasta and Pastizzi.

Built on the site of an old coal mine, Borgs is the oldest business at Harrington Square Altona and has become an institution in Hobsons Bay and Melbourne wide for their delicious homemade pastry treats.

The QR Code for Michelle's story is located on the footpath on Maidstone Street opposite the Harrington Square sign. Or listen from the comfort of home.
