CANCELLATION ANNOUNCEMENT
It is with disappointment that ASP Rugby 7s Inc. advises our supporters, teams, sponsors and the wider community that the inaugural Alice Springs Rugby 7s Tournament scheduled for 30 October – 1 November 2026 has been cancelled.
This decision has not been taken lightly. Despite the significant effort invested by volunteers, supporters and stakeholders, a number of differences regarding branding, association and alignment could not be resolved to a point that would allow the tournament to proceed in the manner originally envisioned.
Over recent months, we have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support shown by teams, businesses, community organisations, volunteers and individuals who shared our vision of creating a major regional rugby event on ARRERNTE Country. For that support, we are sincerely grateful.
Our vision has always been about more than rugby. It has been about growing participation across Central Australia, strengthening connections with remote communities, creating positive opportunities for young people, celebrating culture, and showcasing Alice Springs as a destination for sport and community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who lodged Expressions of Interest, offered sponsorship, volunteered their time, or simply believed in the potential of what this event could achieve.
While this chapter comes to a close, the values that inspired the tournament remain unchanged. We remain passionate about supporting rugby participation, community engagement and creating opportunities for people across Central Australia.
