SUPPORT OUR OWN

The Wallaroo Football Club is coming together to support one of our own — Life Member Mark Depledge.

During our upcoming home game against Moonta, we’re asking our incredible community to dig deep and help support Mark as he continues his journey back to work and everyday living.

Mark is a familiar face around the club as a dedicated A Grade Goal Umpire, prior to the start of this weeks A Grade match, we will proudly present him with a new Goal Umpire Aid as a show of our support for mark to continue doing what he loves around the club.

What many may not know is the battle Mark has faced over the past six years — one that no one should ever have to endure. After undergoing eight procedures on his right hand due to an extremely aggressive, recurring tumour, Mark ultimately faced the unimaginable, with the amputation of his hand.

Through it all, Mark has shown incredible strength, resilience, and commitment to returning to doing what he loves.

Now it’s our turn to stand beside him.

A few snapshots from last night’s Gala & Presentation Night at our truly unique bowling club, and yes, there really was a red carpet!

While “formal” in dress, the night was all about bringing our passionate Alford members together to celebrate the 2025/26 season. Through trophies, medallions, and heartfelt words, we recognised not only our award winners, but also those who made the season so enjoyable for everyone through their contributions and diligent work.

Jakeb led the formal proceedings with his trademark softy-spoken delivery, presenting the Club Champion awards and the Grand Final Winner medallions to our Division 2 Premiers. He then took us through the Skipper’s 3-2-1 votes across all 18 rounds for Division 2 & 3 and Ladies Division 2, with Ray providing a live vote count on the TV screen.

Think Brownlow-style… only more exciting! Votes were revealed in blocks, with breaks every six rounds to update the leaderboard and enjoy the next course of a fantastic three-course dinner, beautifully prepared and served by Karimi’s Kitchen and her hardworking team.

Adding to the evening were thoughtful and uplifting words from Butch, Gavin, and Jenny, a reminder of the strong spirit within our club.

All in all, a fantastic night and the perfect way to cap off a very successful season at the Alford Bowling Club.

Members may have noticed the welcome surge in new sponsors this season, thanks largely to the tireless efforts of our Sponsorship Coordinator. A few businesses even approached the club (cold call) offering to sponsor us, thank you kindly.

One such approach came from Drone Field Art (DFA), a newly launched SA company specialising in precision ground graphics using large agricultural drones and environmentally friendly, water-based paints. Think football ovals, cricket grounds… and now, apparently, bowling greens.

DFA’s Barry Bazzwell offered to sponsor the Club in exchange for spraying the Alford logo on our green as part of their EPA certification process. Under the watchful gaze of two very official-looking EPA officers, and with the blessing of our Green-Keeper, the drone hovered mere centimetres above the turf late yesterday afternoon, following a perfectly pre-programmed flight path and completing the logo in an astonishing 15 minutes. Quite the spectacle.

As part of the arrangement (and a handy cash boost for 2026/27), DFA will spray the Alford logo on the green for all home matches when Divisions 2 and 3 play on the same day. Should make an excellent aiming point for those playing on rinks 4, 5 and 6.

Not to worry, the fully compliant, highly water-soluble paint will dissolve safely with a 30min irrigation cycle. Our Green-Keeper has confirmed the sprinklers are scheduled to go on at 11.30am today. So by midday it will be like the logo was never there.
