Kodomon Martial Arts Karate Classes for Teens and Adults. Self Defence classes on Monday Nights. We offer classes for Teenagers and Adults aged 13+ years.

Kodomon Martial Arts is the leading school of the Traditional Japanese Martial Art of Karate-Do and Self Defence based on Kinetic Fighting in the Brisbane Bayside (Redlands) area. Founded in 1997 Kodomon Karate-Do is a National Member of the Government recognised Australian Karate Federation (AKF), the Queensland Karate Association (QKA) and affiliated with the International Yoshinkan Aikido Feder

ation (IYAF).

6th Dan Chief Instructor, Sensei Glenn Irvine, has over 35 years experience, and has trained under leading Traditional and Police Self Defence Instructors,including Sensei Sadaharu Fujimoto (8th Dan) of the International Karate-Do Shobukai (IKS) in Japan, Sensei Graham Keleher (7th Dan IKS), Sensei Michiharu Mori (7th Dan Yoshinkan) and Sensei Dave Kolb (5th Dan Iaido) in Australia. In June 2008 Sensei Irvine was appointed as the State Coaching Director for Queensland (QKA) and is now a Level 2 NCAS Silver Coach. Traditional Karate and Self Defence classes begin from 13 years of age.

🥋 QLD AFTK Seminar – A Fantastic Day!

Over 30 participants came together for a full day of training, friendship and shared learning.

We kicked off with Sensei Geordie Lavers-McBain (Black Dragon Kai Martial Arts), exploring practical knife defensive tactics that challenged everyone’s timing and control.

Next, Sensei Kahlia Mitchell (Shukokai Hervey Bay Martial Arts) guided us through strength and mobility work tailored to karate—helping us build power and prevent injuries.

After lunch, Sensei Glenn Irvine (Kodomon Martial Arts) took us through dynamic two-person kumite drills, sharpening distance, timing and partner awareness.

Thank you to all the participants for bringing such great energy, and to Sensei Cheyne McMahon (Australian Karate Academy - Salisbury) for both hosting us at his outstanding dojo and opening the day with a valuable bonus session for instructors on attracting and retaining adult students.

A day of great skills, great people and true karate spirit!

The former Spanish National Coach and international seminar presenter on Karate Tactics, Sensei Antonio Oliva, passed away this week. Oliva Sensei led a dominating Spanish National Team at World level, and revolutionised tactics and competitive analysis in the sport. Our Senior students will be familiar with his 9 fighting styles from his seminal work "Combate Supremo". Vale Sensei.
