Aldinga Beach parkrun
Event number 429
13th June 2026
This week 33 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 1 were first timers and 1 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 3 different clubs took part.

On a day when the remarks of 'darkest light' we may have seen at Aldinga Beach parkrun, we enjoyed the most wonderful community and spirit of runners, walkers (and anywhere ways around the course) and of the volunteers who make parkrun possible and bring community together each week.
It turns out that even the darkest clouds and relentless rain are not able to keep the sun from shining in the enjoyment of parkrun 👩‍🦽🧑‍🦼🚶🏃🌨️☀️🌈☔️🤸

The event was made possible by 15 volunteers:

Dale GRIMMOND • John MARKETIS • Robert EVANS • Amanda TERRY-GUNNING • Peter RIDDLE • Kirsty ATKINSON • Madelyne THORNTON • Matthew BALL • Sue CAMAC • Fiona KOUTAS • Dev HASAN • Johannes PIKAAR • Ynys ONSMAN • Michael SIEBEN • Jane ELLERY

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Aldinga Beach parkrun Results Page.

Aldinga Beach parkrun started on 19th August 2017. Since then 6,554 participants have completed 32,734 parkruns covering a total distance of 163,670 km, including 4,350 new Personal Bests. A total of 417 individuals have volunteered 4,304 times.

Volunteer Highlight no. 9 – Louise Smith
Another of our wonderful volunteer team members, Lou, shares some of her parkrun story with us.

“So far, I’ve completed 92 parkruns across 44 different locations, and my family and I are on a mission to visit every parkrun in South Australia. What started as a way to manage the stresses of working as a nurse during COVID has grown into a weekly family tradition that we all look forward to.

A friend invited me to Reynella East parkrun one Saturday morning, and I was instantly hooked. Since then, I’ve managed to get my husband and teenage daughters involved, and Saturday mornings have become a special family activity for us.

I’ve also volunteered 11 times because it never felt right to enjoy parkrun every week without giving something back to this amazing community. My favourite volunteer roles are Course Check and Event Day Setup because I can help out and still enjoy a run. You get the best of both worlds!!

Earlier this year, while visiting Whyalla parkrun, I broke my foot and had to wear a moon boot. Thankfully, that didn’t stop me from being involved! I simply swapped my running shoes for a chair and really enjoyed volunteering as a Barcode Scanner while I recovered. The photos are one of me at Whyalla parkrun just before I broke my foot, and the other of me bar code scanning sitting down.

One of my favourite parkrun memories comes from right here at Aldinga Beach, where I achieved my parkrun PB of 25:36. The support of the pacers really helped me reach that milestone. I hope to try and beat that time one day!”

Thank you, Lou, and to all the volunteers and participants who make Aldinga Beach parkrun such a welcoming and supportive community. Appreciate all of you and your support!

I want to share a text conversation I had over Friday & Saturday, June 5 & 6, 2026, with Joanne Schade, our visitor from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. To me, it highlights how we - ALL OF US... as an event & as individuals - embrace and "live" the parkrun ethos of inclusivity and "parkrun your way".
____________

5/6/26 FROM: Joanne Schade
Hello - I’m visiting from the Isle of Man and am planning on visiting your parkrun tmrw. (Last weekend I ran Moana beach and was disappointed with the timing problem giving us all 59.59) Is it an 8.00 am start too? Is there anything else I need to know ?

Sent by John JD Marketis
G'day, Joanne! 😎
Yes... we're an 8am start (7.45 briefing).
We'll happily give you a "real" time, tomorrow!
Ours is a relatively flat course on a fully sealed footpath... similar to Moana.
See you in the morning!

FROM: Joanne Schade
Ace - I can’t wait. 👍🇮🇲

6/6/26 FROM: Joanne Schade
Thanks for run today ! And especially for the 20min pacer. 1st time under 20 mins for a parkrun for me - makes up for last week !! Very well organized and your race director was lovely too x 👏

Thank you for your kind words, Joanne.
Our event started with a predominantly older demographic and it has always been important to us to emphasise the inclusively of the parkrun ethos.
Knowing [that] an "outsider" can recognise that is very empowering to the core group and lets us know we are doing something right.
As I always say:
"If you like what we do, please tell everyone you know.
If you don't, please tell us."
Happy trails! We hope you return one day! 🌞

FROM: Joanne Schade
Thank you 🙏. I’ve had a super time in Australia and I’ll definitely be back! Good luck with parkrun - I think it’s such a brilliant initiative. We’ve only got one in the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 but our regular attendees have increased from around 120 to over 300 every week just in the Iast year 🤩👍🥳.!!

We, too, have seen wonderful increases in the past year... it seems to be a worldwide thing.
I'll be sure to pass on your glowing report to the Core Team... and - with your permission - publish this thread on our page. Is that OK with you?
In the meantime, feel free to leave a review of our event here: https://www.facebook.com/aldingabeachparkrun/reviews

Aldinga Beach parkrun
Event number 428
6th June 2026

What a huge turnout in tropical attire for the Hawaiian Shirt Takeover to celebrate the wonderful Bob Evans’s 300th volunteer milestone. Bob also happened to turn 85 this week – so even more reason to celebrate; he may no longer be 84 years young but he is definitely still going strong!

125 people came along and ran, jogged and walked the course. It’s a testament to the respect and appreciation so many hold of Bob’s commitment to and passion for volunteering, community and connectedness. Hats off to you, Bob.

Thanks to the work of another wonderful volunteer team member, everyone also got to share in a huge, delicious homemade cake at the end of their run/walk. Thank you, Ornella, for your thoughtfulness and, though you couldn’t be with us in person today, we know you were there in spirit.

Today we welcomed 29 were first timers and 18 recorded new Personal Bests. Well done to John Letcher, looking so strong at the end as first male over the line with a new PB of 19:26, and to our first female over the line, Joanne Schade, as a First Timer and overseas visitor at Aldinga Beach parkrun, who smashed the course with a PB of 20:00. Congratulations to John and Joanne and to all our other PB participants today: Rafael Godoy, Josh Allen, Nathaniel Whiston, Kim Phillips, Jake Christison, Bruce Lines, Freyja Yeatman, Michelle Rothall, Stewart Glass, Karen Lynch, Dylan Jones, Jacqueline McEvoy, Stacey Beck, Kiara Upitis, Sofia Caruso, and Paul Slater. Fantastic work everyone!

Representatives of 7 different clubs took part, and, in addition to Joanne from the Isle of Man, we welcomed other visitors from Hervey Bay – Queensland, and, locally, Mawson Lakes. Thank you all for visiting us and we hope you enjoyed yourselves so much that you will be back one day!

Please note that: One of our finish tokens took an unplanned trip today; we are missing token # 85 so, if this has accidentally left with you, please can you let us know and return it as soon as possible. Many thanks.

The event was made possible by 17 volunteers, with special thanks to our four pacers, Anan, Dev, Brad and Dale who helped guide some of today’s participants to a PB. Great job guys! Thanks to everyone in our amazing volunteer team today:
Dale GRIMMOND • Katie BALL • John MARKETIS • Robert EVANS • Amanda TERRY-GUNNING • Ornella CAMPLIN • Veronica LEE • Ollie WIECZOREK • Matthew BALL • Michelle ELIN • Anan MCLEAN • Nigel CAMAC • Bradley PHILLIPS • Dev HASAN • Johannes PIKAAR • Glenda LOGAN • Michael SIEBEN

A shout out also to the fabulous team at Goodness Coffee Co at Aldinga who serve fantastic food and coffee in a lovely, cosy setting and supply all of our volunteers with a free post parkrun coffee. Thanks so much, we greatly appreciate your support.

If you’d like to be part of a very supportive and friendly volunteer team in the coming months, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Every volunteer contribution, whether occasional or regular, keeps our parkrun going and is greatly appreciated.
