Lately I’ve become aware that I’m operating from a place of elevated stress. My nervous system feels stretched, my mind races ahead of itself, and despite knowing all the things that support regulation, I still find myself caught in the cycle of doing, managing and holding everything together.

For generations we’ve celebrated the hustle. Being busy has become something to aspire to, and “I’m flat out” is often spoken with a sense of pride.

The body doesn’t distinguish between a genuine threat and the endless pressures of modern life. Financial stress, business ownership, family responsibilities, decision making and simply trying to keep up can all contribute to elevated cortisol levels. Over time, sleep becomes affected, patience shortens, emotions sit closer to the surface, and even the smallest tasks can feel overwhelming.

I’m sharing this because I know I’m not alone. Many of us are carrying more than we realise, pushing through fatigue and ignoring the signals that our bodies are asking us to slow down.

I’m learning that rest isn’t something we earn once everything is finished. For most of us, everything is never finished. Rest, recovery and nervous system care need to become part of the process, not the reward at the end of it.

So if you’ve been feeling stretched lately, consider this your reminder, and mine, to listen a little more closely to what your body is trying to say.

In a world that encourages constant movement, yoga offers something different, an invitation to slow down, listen and reconnect.

A breath.
A stretch.
A moment of stillness.

The simplest practices are often the most powerful. ✨

Spring gives rise to new life, a feeling so uplifting it cannot be ignored. The vibrancy of blue skies, buds unfurling, and the gentle calling of birds reminds us that nature is awakening once more.

As the world around us begins to bloom, our bodies often respond in kind, yearning to move, stretch, breathe deeply, and emerge from the slower rhythms of winter.

Yoga offers a beautiful way to honour this seasonal shift. To awaken the body with mindful movement, create space where there has been stagnation, and reconnect with the energy that naturally rises during spring.

Just as the earth begins again, we too are invited to grow, expand, and step into a new season with intention. “What is your body asking for this spring?”

A side lying stretch can gently lengthen both the lats and QL, particularly on the side body that is being opened.

Benefits may include:

* Creating space between the ribs and pelvis.
* Improving side body mobility and breathing capacity.
* Reducing tension in the lower back.
* Encouraging greater shoulder and upper body mobility.
* Supporting spinal decompression and a sense of length through the entire side body.

YogaNess is a sanctuary tucked away from the noise of everyday life. Warm timber floors, soft natural tones, flickering candlelight, a thoughtfully curated space that invites you to slow down the moment you walk through the door. The studio blends comfort and simplicity, creating an environment where you can exhale, reconnect and feel at home.

More than a place to practice yoga, YogaNess is a space for nervous system restoration, mindful movement and genuine connection. Whether you’re joining a gentle flow, settling into the stillness of yin, receiving a massage or simply sitting quietly before class, there is an invitation to arrive exactly as you are.

Small class sizes allow for a more personal experience, where every student is seen, supported and encouraged to honour their own unique journey. Surrounded by plants, soft textures and a sense of calm, YogaNess offers a refuge from the demands of modern life, a place to breathe deeply, move intentionally and return to yourself.

Our reasons for beginning yoga are as varied as we are, and those reasons often evolve over time.

What first brought you to the mat may not be what keeps you there.

Perhaps you began for flexibility, strength, stress relief, or simply because a friend invited you along. Then, as your practice deepens, a new curiosity can emerge. You may find yourself wanting to know more, more about the philosophy that underpins the practice, the subtle energetics of the body, the power of pranayama, or the wisdom woven throughout yoga’s rich history.

The beauty of yoga is that there is always more to explore.

With so much information available, it can feel overwhelming knowing where to begin. My suggestion is simple: follow your curiosity. Notice what sparks your interest and start there. You don’t need to learn everything at once.

How often do you step onto your mat and just have fun?

No expectations, just let your body move and see what flows….

Try it, it’s liberating
