South Melbourne is pleased to confirm the appointment of Mark Cassar as the clubโs Women/Girls Technical Director.
Mark brings extensive experience across all levels of the game, having worked in coaching, technical development and club growth roles throughout Victorian football. His previous experience includes the National Soccer League, NPL/WNPL, State programs, and recently serving as Technical Director at Gippsland United FC. He also worked full-time with Football Victoria, where he worked closely with clubs, local councils, and delivered FA coach education courses and school programs.
His background also includes a strong focus on club development and health, technical and coaching support, and the delivery of player development programs designed to strengthen football pathways at both grassroots and elite levels. He currently also sits on the Football Coaches Australia Technical Committee and holds his A Diploma Coaching Licence.
Having already commenced in the in the past few weeks, Mark has quickly immersed himself within the club, working closely with coaches, players and key stakeholders as he begins implementing his vision for the program.
Head of Female Football Theo Chronis welcomed the appointment, highlighting the important role Mark will play in the club's future.
"Markโs role will focus on strengthening our NPL Womenโs program while also driving growth and engagement across the broader girls and community space.
His appointment is an important step in continuing to build a stronger football pathway, improve coaching structures, and further develop the connection between our MiniRoos, boys' and girls' programs, and surrounding schools."
Markโs appointment further reinforces South Melbourneโs commitment to female football, player development and creating clear pathways from community football through to the clubโs elite programs.
