👋 MEET THE COACHES — MICHAEL COMPTON ⛵
Our Youth Sail Coach Series continues with Michael Compton from South of Perth Yacht Club / Fremantle Sailing Club!
Michael was introduced to sailing thanks to his dad, who purchased a boat at SoPYC and enrolled him in a sailing course. The expectation was simple — Michael needed to learn to sail so he could turn the boat around if his dad fell off! 😂
Safe to say, he’s become almost capable now...
Michael’s sailing journey has taken him around the world, including a 2nd-place finish at the 4.7 Worlds in Poland and winning the U16 category — a major milestone in his sailing journey. 🌏🏆
His favourite class is definitely the ILCA, and when asked who he’d sail against if he could choose anyone, his answer was simple:
⛵ “Any of my coaches when they were my age would be a fun challenge.”
Clearly, the competitive spirit is still alive!
When he’s not sailing, Michael is studying Automation and Robotics at UWA 🤖 — so there’s plenty going on both on and off the water.
His one word to describe Youth Sail?
