Middleton Beach Bowling and Community Club Inc.

Middleton Beach Bowling and Community Club Inc. Winter Bowls: Wednesday and Friday names in by 1.00pm for a 1.15pm start $10 subs. Visitors welcome. We play lawn bowls.

Our Club hasn't had lawn or turf for a number of years but the game is still called lawn bowls to differentiate from 10 pin bowling. Apart from bowling, our Club can offer cards on Tuesday afternoons (usually Canasta and Bridge) and sometimes Mahjong; Craft on Thursdays - anything from patchwork to knitting - starting at 9.30 a.m. We have a choir group who welcome members - male and female - on Wednesday evenings. We welcome you to our Club at 25 Garden Street, Middleton Beach.

Saturday 5th - Opening Day and Patron's Day

Albany turned on some lovely weather for our Opening Day and Patron’s Day, with the forecast rain nowhere in sight. Unfortunately our Patron, Murray Milne was not well enough to join us to roll out the first bowl, however we carried on in the Middleton Beach spirit and took to the A Green to play in triples and fours for our first official social game of the 2026/2027 season. Only 53 players, noticeably lower numbers than in previous years, enjoyed the fine conditions and it was great to welcome Ann Richardson-Newton and guest Scott Welham to play with us. After two games of 10 ends with a short tea break we all enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea and the presentation of welcome letters to two of our new club members Leila Mann and Cathy Burges.

Frank Greguol did his usual fantastic job of calculating the scores and the prize money and had his work cut out for him today. There were only two 2 game winners so credit can go to Ladies Vice Captain Wendy Faithfull for her help in selecting the teams for the day.

Presentations of the prize money by Mens Captain Les Holt were awarded to:

4th Place: Kim Thompson, Arthur Becroft, Wayne Cooper & Wendy Faithfull 1 + 7
3rd Place: Scott Welham, Elaine Cooper & John Radys 1 + 7 (on countback)
2nd Place: Harvey Waddell, Dirk van Heeren & Julie Bunker 2 + 7
WINNERS: Geoff Hornibrook, John Hanson, Trevor Daniel & Bev Taylor 2 + 19

There was also a prize for 5th place (Next Years Winners) awarded to the team of Terry Wright, Mick Jaekel, Dave Holt and Kaz Rendell with 1 + 5

President Steve Faulkner gave thanks to the many people who helped to make today’s event possible: the patronage and sponsorship by Murray Milne, Geoff Hornibrook and Wendy Faithfull for organising the teams, Frank and Trevor for organising the scores and the prize money, thanks to Mara, Heather and all those who helped in the kitchen to organise the afternoon tea and thank you to those members who came along to enjoy the day and provided the refreshments – it was a veritable feast and a lovely way to start the 2026/2027 season.

Friday 4th

Well Spring may have sprung, but someone forgot to give Albany the memo today! Chillier than the faces of the Dockers supporters, 32 players braved the brisk winds out on the B Green in fours and triples for social bowls today. It was great to enjoy a visit from Scott Welham and Suzanne Lamport, especially since they also brought a delicious homemade carrot cake with them. There were four 2 game winners today but the teams of Kim Thompson and Ken Richardson-Newton missed out with scores of 2 + 9 and 2 + 3 respectively.

Friday's lucky winners:
2nd Place: Brian Osman, Kevin Siviour & Gwenda Andrews 2 + 10

Sunday 30th August

Today all the Kings, Queens and the Court gathered for the finals of the Jack and Jill Club. The sun was shining and all the players were keen to get out to the greens to vie for the crowns and trophies on offer – and the bragging rights for the next year.

After the playoffs, we all enjoyed a sausage sizzle and some great camaraderie for our final Sunday morning together before the start of a new season.

A great big thanks to Frank Greguol and Gladys Richardson for their organisation of the clubs – your efforts are very much appreciated. Coming up at the club….

28/08/2026

Hi everyone, I took a bit of time out this week to recharge my batteries before the start of the season - so here's what was going on at the Club this week.....

Saturday 22nd

Today saw 4 teams play off in a Regional Final of the BPL for a place in the State Final at Pinjarra on Sunday 13th of September. Congratulations to the team of John Stafrace, Mark Pooley and Jim Robertson who took the honours on the day. We wish them luck in their quest against other teams from around the State for a chance at a berth in the Queensland final.

Sunday 23rd

Jack and Jill Club sponsored by Pat and Mal Greenhalgh

There was no Jack Club today as it was the final round of the Tri-Series between Middleton Beach, Mt Barker and Kojonup, hosted by our club. Coming into the home stretch, we had a good lead on the other two teams, and put in a strong performance on home turf. Final scores for the series were: Middleton Beach 702, Kojonup 574 and Mt Barker 529. Thanks to the ladies who put on a lovely spread for all the players, thanks to the bar staff, John Hanson for the greens preparation and a big thanks to Frank Greguol for his ongoing organisation of this event.

This Sunday 30/8/26 sees the final of the Jack Club, with the playoff for the King Crown. Those vying for the title are: Jim Hull, Jeff Meyers, Barry Holt, Lou Mancini, Phil Ramsden, Les Holt, John Hanson, Jack Higgins and Bill Collins.

Jill Club

The colder weather and the catering for the Tri-Series saw 8 ladies take to the C Green for Jill Club today. It was a great final with our two competitors having a one bowl shootout for the Queen honours this week!

RUNNER UP: Elaine Cooper
QUEEN: Leila Mann

This week was the last opportunity to win a place in the playoff for the Queen crown. Those lucky ladies competing on Sunday 30/8/26 for the title of Jill Club Queen will be: Gladys Richardson, Dianne Pooley, Elaine Cooper, Dianne Becroft, Leila Mann, and Ann Hornibrook.

Wednesday 26th

There were no social bowls today due to the weather conditions.

Friday 28th

With a distinct improvement on Wednesday’s weather, 51 intrepid bowlers were on the A and B Green to try their hand at winning one of the coveted yellow envelopes. We were once again joined by the some of the crew from Albany Bowling Club and Ye Heron from Katanning. It was also great to see Chris Hill back bowling with us as well. There were 4 two game winners today with commiserations to Elaine Coopers’ team who missed out on an envelope with a score of 2 + 5.

3rd Place: Ken Richardson-Newton, Jim Hull & Isabelle Mason 2 + 7

Thanks to Beryl, Leila and Ann Hornibrook for the hot chips tonight. Back to cheese, biscuits and meat next week.

Thanks to Mark Pooley for washing all the club windows, Deb Pooley for cleaning all the doors and surrounds and to the ladies who cleaned and sorted the kitchen and cups ready for the new season. In regards to the cups, could you please endeavour to place your cup upwards (open side up) once it is washed and dried, for sanitary reasons.

Thanks to John Hanson for installing all the new plaques on the seats on the A and C Greens. There are still some spaces available so if you (either as an individual or together with some other members) would like your name immortalised on one of these please see Steve, Jill or Mike to arrange for a donation of $500.

Saturday 5th of September is Opening Day and Patron’s Day – please have your name in by 1pm for a 1.30pm start and be photo ready! . Dress code is Club uniform (NOT Travellers shirt) and please bring a plate for afternoon tea.

Our garden guru Bob Jefferis is hanging up his secateurs next month so anyone interested in taking on the garden duties please give your name to Steve, Mike or Ken – the more the merrier as a group would be preferred to spread the workload.
