Hi everyone, I took a bit of time out this week to recharge my batteries before the start of the season - so here's what was going on at the Club this week.....
Saturday 22nd
Today saw 4 teams play off in a Regional Final of the BPL for a place in the State Final at Pinjarra on Sunday 13th of September. Congratulations to the team of John Stafrace, Mark Pooley and Jim Robertson who took the honours on the day. We wish them luck in their quest against other teams from around the State for a chance at a berth in the Queensland final.
Sunday 23rd
Jack and Jill Club sponsored by Pat and Mal Greenhalgh
There was no Jack Club today as it was the final round of the Tri-Series between Middleton Beach, Mt Barker and Kojonup, hosted by our club. Coming into the home stretch, we had a good lead on the other two teams, and put in a strong performance on home turf. Final scores for the series were: Middleton Beach 702, Kojonup 574 and Mt Barker 529. Thanks to the ladies who put on a lovely spread for all the players, thanks to the bar staff, John Hanson for the greens preparation and a big thanks to Frank Greguol for his ongoing organisation of this event.
This Sunday 30/8/26 sees the final of the Jack Club, with the playoff for the King Crown. Those vying for the title are: Jim Hull, Jeff Meyers, Barry Holt, Lou Mancini, Phil Ramsden, Les Holt, John Hanson, Jack Higgins and Bill Collins.
Jill Club
The colder weather and the catering for the Tri-Series saw 8 ladies take to the C Green for Jill Club today. It was a great final with our two competitors having a one bowl shootout for the Queen honours this week!
RUNNER UP: Elaine Cooper
QUEEN: Leila Mann
This week was the last opportunity to win a place in the playoff for the Queen crown. Those lucky ladies competing on Sunday 30/8/26 for the title of Jill Club Queen will be: Gladys Richardson, Dianne Pooley, Elaine Cooper, Dianne Becroft, Leila Mann, and Ann Hornibrook.
Wednesday 26th
There were no social bowls today due to the weather conditions.
Friday 28th
With a distinct improvement on Wednesday’s weather, 51 intrepid bowlers were on the A and B Green to try their hand at winning one of the coveted yellow envelopes. We were once again joined by the some of the crew from Albany Bowling Club and Ye Heron from Katanning. It was also great to see Chris Hill back bowling with us as well. There were 4 two game winners today with commiserations to Elaine Coopers’ team who missed out on an envelope with a score of 2 + 5.

The nomination sheets for the Championship Mixed Fours (now on Tuesday the 15th and Wednesday the 16th of September) is now on the board and so is the sheet for the Mixed Triples event on Wednesday 14th of October.

He will keep us updated as more information becomes available. If anyone has any recommendations for a replacement product your suggestions would be appreciated.
President Steve Faulkner – has returned from his holiday fresh from dodging camels and crocodiles! Many thanks to Ken Richardson-Newton for holding the fort. Mike Pooley has been in touch and his operation went well and he should be back in action very soon.
Welcome to the visiting bowlers from Albany and Ye from Katanning. Also great to have Chris Hill back with us.
Happy 50th wedding anniversary to Mark and Dianne Pooley celebrating today. Congratulations to Jim Robertson, John Stafrace and Mark Pooley on their win in the BPL Regional final – good luck at Pinjarra in a couple of weeks time.
Congratulations to those who represented Middleton Beach in the annual Tri-Series competition on the great win – 7 years in a row now. Thanks to Frank for organising the event and to all those who helped on the day of the club hosting.
Thanks to Beryl, Leila and Ann Hornibrook for the hot chips tonight. Thus ends the season of hot food – thanks to Beryl and Olivia for organising the hot food over this Winter season – it has been a real treat – and thanks to all those who helped get it ready and cleaned up every week. Back to cheese, biscuits and meat next week.
Thanks to Mark Pooley for washing all the club windows, Deb Pooley for cleaning all the doors and surrounds and to the ladies who cleaned and sorted the kitchen and cups ready for the new season. In regards to the cups, could you please endeavour to place your cup upwards (open side up) once it is washed and dried, for sanitary reasons.
Thanks to John Hanson for installing all the new plaques on the seats on the A and C Greens. There are still some spaces available so if you (either as an individual or together with some other members) would like your name immortalised on one of these please see Steve, Jill or Mike to arrange for a donation of $500.
Saturday 5th of September is Opening Day and Patron’s Day – please have your name in by 1pm for a 1.30pm start and be photo ready! . Dress code is Club uniform (NOT Travellers shirt) and please bring a plate for afternoon tea.
Our garden guru Bob Jefferis is hanging up his secateurs next month so anyone interested in taking on the garden duties please give your name to Steve, Mike or Ken – the more the merrier as a group would be preferred to spread the workload.
