Wednesday 23rd. Goode Beach ride.
We were joined by riders from the Bunbury 55+ who slotted in to the groups most closely matching their speed and abilities. It was good fun riding with different people and the Bunbury riders seemed to enjoy themselves although I think that they found some of the hills hard going. They provided cake and fruit at the half way point, Goode Beach. A rare treat for the Albany riders. After ride tea/ coffee at Bay Merchants gave us further opportunities to socialise.

Saturday 12th MSWA ride.
15 riders from the Over 50s registered for this year’s ride.
1 for the 40km course
11 for the 80km course
3 for the 103km course.
We had drizzle on and off for most of the ride but only light winds. Mike & Ian took the lead out and back and kept a steady
pace which allowed us to stay together as a group making it a pleasant ride.
So far, the over 50s have raised $4555 for MS

Wednesday 9th The Loops ride.
There was a good turnout for the Loops ride. Apart from the Marine Drive hill climb at the start and the end of the course, it’s a flat ride and the average speeds for each group were higher than normal. Mods 1 - 25 Km/hr. Mods 2 - 28Km/hr and the fast group 30Km/hr.
Mods1 had a scare when a Ute did a U turn in front of us.
Saturday 12th
15 riders will take part in the MSWA in this years ride.
A report will follow.

25/11 Club ride to Little Beach.
A warm day with light winds made it an ideal day. 18 riders turned up for the ride to Little Beach. The ride started from and fished at Don’s house where Val had prepared an excellent morning tea.
It’s a challenging course with a lot of hills but groups maintained discipline by waiting at the top of the hills in order to regroup. The staggered departure times seemed to work well as most riders arrived at the turn around point at the same time. The return trip was less disciplined....the usual race back for morning tea.

There were only ten of us on Wednesday’s ride to Quaranup. Perhaps the cold start and the wind put people off, but morning tea at Jeff’s made it all worthwhile. With only ten riders, we decided to ride as a single group. This worked well on the way out but we were spread out on the return trip.
Next week’s ride is the Spencer Rd ride (39Km) starting from Narrikup hall.

The bicycle is the slow death of the planet.

General Director of Euro Exim Bank Ltd. got economists thinking when he said:

"A cyclist is a disaster for the country's economy: he does not buy cars and does not borrow money to buy. He does not pay for insurance policies. He does not buy fuel, does not pay for the necessary maintenance and repairs. He does not use paid parking. He does not cause serious accidents. He does not require multi-lane highways. He does not get fat.
Healthy people are neither needed nor useful for the economy. They don't buy medicine. They do not go to hospitals or doctors. Nothing is added to the country's GDP (gross domestic product).
On the contrary, every new McDonald's restaurant creates at least 30 jobs: 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 dietary experts and nutritionists, and obviously, people who work at the restaurant itself."

Choose carefully: cyclist or McDonald's? It is worth considering.

P.S. Walking is even worse. Pedestrians don't even buy bicycles.

Group ride. Redmond Hay River
A cold start (11° felt like 3°) for Wednesday’s ride. 16 riders braved the cold and the strong winds ( gusting up to 41 Km/hr) to do the three x 16 Km out and back legs. Fortunately it didn’t rain. Post ride morning tea was taken at Phillips Brook Estate where comfy seats, a warm fire and plentiful tea, coffee and cake were enjoyed.
Next week’s ride is ‘Cosy Corner’.
68Km from Eyre park or 46 Km from Frenchy’s

Group ride to Anvil beach ( Tony’s ride)
A good turnout on a cold morning but the winds were light and it warmed up. An incident free ride apart from one rider who got a nasty gash when a stick flicked up off the road and hit his shin .
A relatively easy ride , about 41Km and an elevation gain of about 160m (depending on whose Garmin you believe)
Approx. Ave speeds:
Fast enough 22.6
Mods 1 26.5
Mods 2 27.5
Wannabes. 28
Fast group. 32

Group ride. Goode Beach,
A beautiful day for a ride. Unfortunately the ‘Mods1’ group had 4 punctures, 2 broken spokes and a couple of near misses with cars. Apart from that it was a good ride.
