Yes this is a last minute post, but it’s definitely not too late to book into Calm Body Sunday yoga.

This is a 90-minute session including very gentle yoga that’s floor based (no getting up and down, up and down, - just lots of lying around and stretching ā˜ŗļø), a couple of journal prompts and some meditation in the beautiful library space overlooking town hall.

If you’re a current student who’d like to try a different style or a brand newbie, I’d love to see you there 🩷

53 šŸŽ‚

Today I gifted myself a facial - not to try and look younger - just for some lovely pampering me time.

I realised last week as I smiled at myself in the mirror that I like my crow’s feet.

I like what they represent - 53 years of life. 53 years of smiles. 53 years of emotion.

I wouldn’t change that for anything.

So here’s a 53 year old woman, with no makeup, grey hair unstyled, happily single and loving her crow’s feet.

Take that patriarchy šŸ’Ŗ

Maybe midlife doesn’t have to be a crisis OR a reinvention.

Maybe it can just be… a bit of both.

I’m accepting that I like slow mornings. That I don’t want to work full time. That I actually quite like myself. That my body has changed and will keep changing.

And I’m also accepting that there are things I still want to work on. I want to get stronger. I want to get out more. I want to keep growing and trying things.

But I’m not interested in optimising myself into some imaginary ā€œbest versionā€ of me.

I quite like this version.

Maybe that’s the middle I’m talking about.

Not giving up.
Not blowing everything up.
Not trying to perfect ourselves.

Just noticing what’s working, accepting what isn’t, and making a life that feels like ours.

I’m turning 53 this week. And honestly, I’m pretty happy to be here. ā¤ļø

I cried at a reel today.

A famous man was showing a fan with an intellectual disability how to use his phone camera.

He was so calm. So patient. So completely unhurried.

And, more than anything, he treated him with dignity.

And I absolutely lost it.

I’ve become a lifelong crier since going through a period of deep grief, but I’ve noticed that kindness is the thing that gets me most often.

And I think I’ve finally worked out why.

I think kindness is one of the ways we show love.

So perhaps that’s what I want to keep noticing as I get older.

People being kind.
People being brave.
People looking after each other.
People making someone else feel like they matter.

I want to keep putting that at the top of my list.

Maybe it’s not that women stop caring in their 50s.

Maybe after decades of caring for everyone else, we finally start caring about ourselves too.

And perhaps the hormones play a part. But so does 50 years of being told what a woman should be.

At some point, you just think: nah. I’m going to do what I want now.

And honestly? I love that for us. ā¤ļø

I didn’t expect a knee injury to teach me so much about getting older.

I’ve learned that it feels good to get stronger. And that healing is a whole body thing including mental health. It all just takes a little more patience than it used to. ā¤ļø
