๐ ๐ Grand Final Match Report โ Airlie Beach vs Brothers (T20 3rd Grade)
Harrup Park 1 โ Great Barrier Reef Arena
A heartbreaking finish for Airlie Beach in the Grand Final, falling just short by 8 runs, 5/101 chasing 8/109โbut it was a performance full of fight, pride, and a moment of brilliance that will be remembered for a long time.
Airlie Beach were exceptional with the ball, led by a sensational spell from Aaron Regan, who delivered a Grand Final hat-trick in the final over to finish with 3/14 off 4 overs. In a stunning burst, he removed three batters in consecutive deliveries, completely halting Brothersโ momentum and giving Airlie Beach real belief heading into the chase.
He had great support from Andrew Clark (2/19), while Neville Suell (1/22) and Jonathan Maxwell (1/28) also chipped in with wickets. The pressure was built collectively, with the bowlers and fielders working as a unitโhighlighted by catches from Jonathan Maxwell, Jake Kelly, Joshua Geisler, and a sharp run-out involving Regan himself. Restricting Brothers to 109 on a Grand Final wicket was a top effort.
Chasing 110, Airlie Beach had contributions across the lineup but just couldnโt quite build the one big partnership needed. Joshua Geisler led the scoring with a determined 33 off 47 balls, while captain Jake Kelly anchored things with 31 off 37, keeping the innings steady under pressure.
Aaron Regan (12 off 12) added useful runs in the middle, and Dinusha Wijethunga (12 off 12)* remained not out at the end, fighting until the last. Neville Suell (5 off 5)* also stayed unbeaten, but the target proved just out of reach.
Despite wickets falling at key moments, the game stayed alive right until the endโjust a few more runs or one more partnership could have changed everything.
In the end, it wasnโt the result Airlie Beach wanted, but the effort was undeniable. A Grand Final performance built on teamwork, resilience, and that unforgettable hat-trick from Aaron Regan.
Final Result: Brothers 8/109 defeated Airlie Beach 5/101
