How to train a horse to bolt:

1- regularly lead him with a tight grip, especially on the same side. Resistance to the lead rope on a regular basis will make him feel both confined and worried, and also learn to use it for leverage to seek escape.

2- drive while the hand or lead line or lunge line is closed. This will ensure the horse goes forward into a block, and is forced to go up and away. It’s a very effective way to confuse a horse and bring up the fight or flight in him, and if you’re very effective, he’ll leave in a hurry

3- expose him to something he wasn’t prepared for, or ask him to do something from a place of mental worry, without giving him the skills to understand or accomplish it. Continue applying pressure, or not alleviating it, for best bolting effect.

4- work around or near folks who are not guiding their horse well, with horses who are disregulated. This will give your horse a worried energy to feed off of, and help create energy building to a bolt. Choosing not to support your horse but fighting his energy just to get along with the group will really seal the deal.

5- regularly be unaware of your own energy, your own handling of your tools and have conflicting aids between leg, seat and rein.

It’s not that hard to teach a horse to bolt, any body can do it ! Just follow a few simple steps and you’ll be well on your way to a confirmed bolter- with practice, they can choose it as their default behavior, and you won’t even have to try to create it. Practice makes perfect!

Following our earlier expression of interest - we are getting ready to set a date for our upcoming short course.

We were delighted to see such enthusiasm from individuals who are eager to learn about horse anatomy, riding skills, handling, care, feeding, and much more.

To finalise the course schedule and accommodate as many participants as possible, we kindly request that you let us know your availability for the 1.5-hour group sessions over the 8-week period.

Please take a moment to indicate the days that would suit you best by responding to the poll below.

The options for session days are as follows:
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday

If you have any specific time preferences within the day (e.g., morning, afternoon, evening), please mention that as well.

Once we have collected everyone's responses, we will determine the most suitable schedule that accommodates the majority of participants. We will then inform you of the final course dates and times, along with registration details.

If you have any questions or require further information about the Horse Owners' Course, please feel free to ask.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST!
Lisa Wilson and myself have met so many people in the community with children who would like to learn about horses but don't own them.

We were putting together an 8 week program to teach children (& kids at heart) the basics of owning a horse. This would include some of the following:

Catching & leading a horse.
Grooming basics
Horse colours
Parts of a horse
Parts of saddle & bridle
How to pick out hooves
Basic first aid for horses
What it costs to own a horse (this is a great thing for kids to learn, but also to take home to parents when making a decision to buy)
And so much more

They would have information to take home with them to keep.

This week be a group session to enhance learning with friends and a ONE HOUR session each week for 8 weeks.

Please message us if you would like to find out more and let me know what days would suit best. Most of our weekends are pretty booked up but we were thinking after school could be an option.

Parking: when you arrive drive around the tree and park along the palms at the side of the property. If you’re the first to arrive please drive back down toward the gate as far down as possible to allow others in behind you.

Horses to be tied inside the gated area where the round yard is - no tying to floats please

Please bring along
◦ Carrot Stick and string - if you have one
◦ Rope halter and long lead - if you have one
◦ Bucket for water - there is a bath tub to fill from, no horses are to drink from the tub
◦ Tack
◦ Helmet for under 18’s preferred if everyone wears one
◦ Cold drink

Suitable for all levels of riding but riders must be confident riding one handed at least at the walk.

$80/ rider
Payment required on booking

If you’re unable to make it it will be your responsibility to find a replacement rider otherwise fee is non-refundable
