THROWBACK TUESDAY | Where It All Began

Throwing it back to April 2025 and my very first guest on Courtside Coffee Catch-Up, Nat Hurst! 🎙️

A seven-time WNBL champion with the Canberra Capitals, 2009 WNBL Grand Final MVP and former Australian Opal, Nat enjoyed an incredible playing career spanning two decades, including time playing professionally in Europe.

Her contribution to basketball hasn’t stopped since hanging up the boots!

As the current head coach of New Zealand’s Tall Ferns and back with the Canberra Capitals as assistant coach, Nat continues to make her mark on the game from the sidelines.

As Courtside Coffee Catch-Up continues to grow, I’m looking forward to revisiting some of the incredible conversations from our early days and introducing these stories to those who might have missed them the first time around.

Captain Steph Talbot will continue to lead from the front this WNBL season, supported by Zitina Aokuso and Tayla Brazel as part of the Adelaide Lightning leadership group. 🏀⚡

Steph also spoke highly of rising talent Aspen Crass sharing her excitement about supporting her development and watching her continue to grow this season.

With the Adelaide Lightning officially launching their 2026/27 season last night, there’s a familiar face embracing a new role.

Since stepping away from playing, Tess Madgen has tried her hand at a few different opportunities within basketball. Now she’s taking on a new challenge as General Manager of the Adelaide Lightning.

🎙️ At last week’s press conference, I asked Tess how she’s finding the transition and settling into her new role.

The Adelaide Lightning are fortunate to have someone with Tess’s experience, passion and knowledge of the game helping shape the club’s future beyond her playing career. 💜

💜For her. And every girl finding her own way.

International Day of the Girl 💜

As a mum to Raewyn, I think more than ever about the world I want her to grow up in. One where she knows her voice matters, she belongs and she never has to fit a particular mould to follow her dreams.

Basketball has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My journey hasn’t always followed the path I imagined, but it’s shown me that there are so many ways to find your place, contribute and make a difference.

And now I get to share that journey with my daughter.

Through commentary, Courtside Coffee Catch-Up and my involvement in female participation, I’m passionate about helping create opportunities, amplify voices and share the stories of women and girls across our game.

Because representation matters. Feeling included matters. And having people who believe in you can make all the difference.

I want Raewyn to grow up seeing women in all kinds of roles — leading, creating, challenging expectations and supporting one another.

Not because I expect her to follow in my footsteps, but because I want her to know she can choose her own.

And I want that for every girl.

Here’s to raising girls who know their worth, encouraging them to use their voices and continuing to create spaces where they feel they belong. 💜



May she always know she belongs.

The path isn’t always the one we imagined.

But there are so many ways to find your voice.

And so many opportunities we can create for those coming next.

Strong women support each other. And inspire the next generation.

Her future. Her voice. Her own path. 🩵

You can’t be what you can’t see. Representation matters.

Dream big. Be yourself. Never feel you have to fit someone else’s mould.
