🏊 How do elite swimmers recover between sessions?

Recovery is just as important as training. For me, it comes down to the 3 R’s: Recovery, Rehydration & Refuelling.

After training, I focus on:
🍽️ Eating a proper meal
💧 Rehydrating
😴 Getting quality sleep
🧘 Taking time to relax and switch off

On race days, the same principles apply. Whether you’re heading home for a nap or finding a quiet spot at the pool, the goal is to give your body the best chance to be ready for what’s next.

💬 What’s your go-to recovery strategy?

🏊 My race-day warm-up — 2 hours out, this is exactly what I do

🔥 Dry land first: skipping, mobility, activation drills, core work + explosive movements to wake the body up

💦 Then into the pool: long swim → drills → breath work → short-rest efforts → sprints → race-pace work
⚡ I always finish with explosive efforts and a 25m dive at race pace — it’s the last thing that gets my nervous system tuned in to the speed I need
🏁 Suit on. Marshalling room. Stay calm. Ready.
Every swimmer’s warm-up looks different, but the goal is the same: walk onto the blocks feeling prepared, fast and confident

What’s your go-to warm-up before you race? Tell me below 👇

🏊 How I warm up before a race

My race-day warm-up starts 2 hours before I race.

🔥 Dry land: skipping, mobility, activation, core work and explosive movements.

💦 In the pool: long swim, drills, breath work, short-rest efforts, sprints and race-pace work.

⚡ I finish with explosive efforts and a 25m dive at race pace to feel ready for the speed of my event.

🏁 Then it’s racing suit on, into the marshalling room, stay calm—and get ready to race.

Every swimmer is different, but finding a routine that makes you feel prepared, fast and confident is key.

The day before a big meet: keep it simple.

The goal isn’t to do more — it’s to prepare your body and mind to perform.

A light swim with a few race-specific efforts, plenty of hydration, familiar foods, time to relax, and as much quality sleep as possible.

Rest. Recover. Rehydrate. Refuel. Prepare.

Then it’s time to race.

What’s your non-negotiable routine the day before a big meet?

28/08/2026

The day before race day, less is more.

It’s not about squeezing in extra work—it’s about giving your body and mind the space to be ready.

That means an easy swim with a touch of race pace, staying on top of hydration, eating what your body already knows, taking time to switch off, and getting as much sleep as you can.

Rest. Recover. Rehydrate. Refuel. Prepare.

Then it’s race time.

What’s the one thing you always do the day before a big meet?

Your brain is always listening.

The words you repeat become the beliefs you carry.

Before your next race, pay attention to your self-talk.

Are you speaking like a supporter?
Or a critic?

The way you speak to yourself matters.

Train it daily.

Race day starts in the mind.

The swimmers who perform best aren’t always the least nervous.

They’re the ones who know where to place their attention.

Focus on what you can control.
Use your nerves as fuel.
Measure success by more than just the clock.

Your mindset can either work for you or against you.
