When cortisol is chronically elevated, the abdomen responds by storing more fat.
It's an evolutionary mechanism. The body holds energy reserves close to the vital organs in anticipation of sustained threat. That made sense in caveman days - when the threat was a predator or a food shortage over winter.
It makes no sense whatsoever when the threat is a chronic inflammatory load and a full inbox.
And it doesn't stop there. Chronically elevated cortisol directly drives insulin resistance, because cortisol raises blood glucose as part of the stress response, which then requires more insulin, which worsens insulin sensitivity over time.
It also suppresses thyroid function, reduces growth hormone - essential for muscle maintenance - and disrupts the hunger hormones ghrelin and leptin.
One hormone. A cascade of consequences.
This is from Episode 3 of Nourish, Heal & Rise - all about weight loss resistance.
Episodes 1 (chronic inflammation) and 2 (inflammatory fatigue) are also live.
