Signs of insulin resistance your doctor will tell you are normal. They’re really not, so don’t ignore them.
— skin tags, especially on your neck or under your arms
— stubborn, hard belly fat that won’t move
— dark, velvety patches of skin in your armpits, neck or eyelids (acanthosis nigricans)
— waking up at 2-4am for no reason
— PCOS or irregular periods
— a fasting glucose of 90 to 99 that keeps creeping up year after year, still labeled “normal” because it’s under 100
If more than one of these sounds familiar, it’s worth asking your doctor for more than just the standard panel. Ask to test fasting insulin or HOMA-IR.
