انتقادها از اصلاحات پیشنهادی NDIS و کاهش بودجه حمایتی در حال افزایش است.
اصلاحات پیشنهادی دولت حزب کارگر برای کاهش هزینهها و محدود کردن دسترسی به برنامه حمایت از افراد دارای معلولیت (NDIS) با انتقاد شدید انستیتوت گراتن روبه رو شده است. این مرکز پژوهشی میگوید کاهش ۵۰ درصدی بودجه فعالیتهای اجتماعی غیرمنصفانه است و میتواند بر زندگی افراد دارای معلولیت تأثیر منفی بگذارد.
به گفته این مرکز، کاهش حمایت از فعالیتهای اجتماعی مانند اشتراک در جامعه، یادگیری مهارتها و کاهش تنهایی با اهداف اصلی NDIS در تضاد است و ممکن است بیشتر بر افراد دارای معلولیت روانی ـ اجتماعی، آسیب بینایی و سندروم داون تأثیر بگذارد. منتقدان همچنین هشدار دادهاند که این تغییرات می تواند فشار بیشتری بر خانوادهها وارد کرده، نابرابری را افزایش دهد و متاسفانه مردمان بومی آسترالیا را بیشتر متأثر سازد.

Debate Continues Over NDIS Funding Reductions and Access
Reforms
The proposed reforms by the Labor government to reduce spending and limit access to the NDIS have faced strong criticism from the Grattan Institute, which argues that cutting social participation budgets by up to 50% is unfair, poorly designed, and could negatively affect people with disabilities.
The institute warned that reducing support for social participation such as community engagement, skill-building, and reducing isolation contradicts the goals of the NDIS and may disproportionately impact groups such as people with psychosocial disabilities, vision impairment, and Down syndrome.
Critics also argue that the reforms could shift costs onto families and carers, worsen inequality, and create inconsistencies between how disability is assessed and how support is funded, while Aboriginal organisations warn the changes could further disadvantage First Nations communities
