The Marion Gift Carnival is now open for nominations!

Long time supporters of the event, City of Marion, were there at the 2025 event capturing the action and interviewing athletes, volunteers and the community.

The SA Athletic League is deeply saddened to acknowledge the recent passing of valued member and sponsor, Darcy Cheney. Darcy’s support and involvement in the League will be remembered with great appreciation, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him at this difficult time.

Darcy ran with Gary Thompson at the Reynella Athletic Club during the 2000s and last competed in 2019. His involvement in the League continued beyond competition through his valued sponsorship of Over 45 races and the Reynella Gift. Amongst his athletic achievements with the SAAL, Darcy won the Loxton the 300m Over 35 twice in 2003 and 2006 and the 2006 400m Over 35 in Mount Gambier.

The SAAL is committed to building a diverse and representative board, and we warmly encourage women who care about the future of pro running to consider nominating. If you have ideas, experience or simply a genuine passion for our sport, we would love to see you put yourself forward. Your voice matters, and your contribution could make a real difference to the future direction of the League.

A reminder that Life Membership nominations are due by 4pm tomorrow.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP NOMINATIONS
Do you know someone that you think is worthy of a SAAL Life Membership nomination? We would love to hear from you.

Nominations must be received by the SAAL Office [email protected] before 4pm 30th April.

Nominations for Life Membership must be in writing and signed by two (2) current League Members or Life Members.

To be eligible for Life Membership a person must have given outstanding and meritorious service in promoting the interest of the League as follows:

(i) For a minimum of 15 years including not less than 5 years as an official, or holder of an administrative position.

(ii) For a minimum of 10 years as an official or holder of an administrative position.

(iii) For a minimum of 20 years as a Registered Athlete or Coach.
