How do you toilet along the Trail? Leave no Trace is the ethos!!
Whether it's a short, day or multi-day hike we usually need to "go" sometime. Apart from towns & caravan parks, it is rare to find a toilet. So what do you do?
Peeing? Should be off the trail and discreet. Be sure to look around for nasties before you release & check the wind direction. Take any paper or wipes in your rubbish bag.
Pooing? Carry a trowel, cleaning towel/toilet paper and rubbish bags; be at least 100m away from water & campsites; then dig deep and wide enough to catch your matter. Wiping stuff goes in your baggie. Maybe try a "Toilet In A Tube " pre-loaded with waste treatment poo powder to deal with the contents or make your own "poo pot". These are openly promoted by many national parks and conservation groups.
If you happen to find a long-drop please close the lid after use to mitigate smells & insects.
You'll always need to carry toilet paper & hand-washing material to finish off.
Respect the environment and other walkers by keeping it clean.
