Having set the platform last week for a big win, the B2s quickly lost 5/19 to put a scare through the Highgate crowd before steadying to put a big dent in Ingle Farms’ finals aspirations. Pederson continued where he’d left off last week, holding the innings together to post his tenth century for Old Concordians, while the tail wagged against a frustrated bowling line up.
In a game which occasionally got spirited, our youngest ever side showed that actions speak louder than words, almost pulling off an outright victory, with Hassan again ripping through the brittle batting line up to add to his 5 wicket haul in the first innings. The Farmers were sent back listless to their own side of Grand Junction Rd, while “We’re a Happy Team at Concordia” was sung with gusto in the winners’ changerooms.
The LO4s have booked their ticket to the finals, following a comfortable win against Uni. Batting first, Shayan and Jake posted a 50 run partnership at the top of the order, before the rest of the line up chipped in on a tough batting surface.
In reply, our bowlers got on top early to dispel any Blacks’ hopes, with the fielders backing them up superbly taking 9 catches.
Up against old nemesis Old Ignatians, the LO5s suffered their third loss in four weeks but still sit atop the ladder with 3 games to go. Bowling first, we struggled to make inroads, with recent LO1 player Kieng taking particular toll on the bowlers although Ganu provided some troubles with 3 wickets.
Old Ignatians’ ****** player ripped thru our middle order with 5 wickets, as “wides” top scored to leave plenty of work to be done in the nets over the next few weeks.
In LO6, Old Concordians fought hard but were unable to quite get over the line.
Batting first, Chippa anchored the innings with a composed 25 (42 balls), striking four boundaries. Shagga contributed a patient 19 while Schmidt steadied the innings after we’d lost 3/1, but 94 always felt under par.
Ever the lionheart, Schmidt ripped through the top order to have Kilburn reeling at 3/13, claiming four wickets in total and finishing with outstanding figures of 4/29 from 8 overs, including two maidens. But that was where the good times ended, as Kilburn cruised to a 6 wicket victory to end LO6’s finals aspirations.
