Week 5 X-League Wrap Up
For the second week in a row, our teams found themselves battling it out on a Korean course. This week, Ara Mir Golf Club stepped up to the challenge, testing players with its demanding layout, tricky terrain, and undulating greens.
Ara Mir rewards patience and smart course management, and some teams were more than willing to map out their strategy hole by hole. That approach paid dividends, with both matchups ending in decisive fashion.
In the first bracket, "3 Pye's & I" took on "Driving Straight" in a hard-fought contest. "Driving Straight" captain Paul G. made a statement early, claiming Nearest to the Pin honours from the firm grasp of "3 Pye's & I" captain Christian B. Paul edged him out by just 0.05m, finishing 7.15m from the pin.
But "3 Pye's & I" responded in style. Their superstar benchman Rob secured the Long Drive title (with a little help from the cart path), launching a massive 313.4m drive that finished just off the fairway.
When the dust settled, "3 Pye's & I" completed a 3–0 sweep, strengthening their hold on top spot on the ladder.
The second bracket had its fair share of twists and turns, with "Red Tins GC" facing off against Superior Logistics Australia "SLA Golfers". In a remarkable coincidence, every "SLA Golfers" player finished with the exact same net score of +10. While it wasn't enough to secure the overall win, it did prevent a clean sweep, with "SLA Golfers" taking one point from the matchup. The result finished 2–1 in favour of "Red Tins GC", leaving them just one point behind "3 Pye's & I" on the leaderboard.
Next week brings the second and final Scramble round of the season, and if history is any guide, we can expect some seriously low scores.
