CSIT EU Projects: Progress Update

Our portfolio of EU-funded projects is progressing steadily, with all five initiatives currently on track and delivering important milestones. Several projects that recently launched have now entered the needs analysis phase, where we engage directly with target groups to better understand their experiences, challenges, and expectations before moving into the development stage.

🔹 MAMA
Supporting mothers in sport during pregnancy, postpartum, and throughout motherhood. The project is currently collecting survey responses and conducting interviews across the sports sector, while best practice examples have already been identified.

🔹 WeLead
Focused on strengthening women's leadership in sport. A comprehensive survey is underway to better understand the current landscape, identify barriers, and explore opportunities for future action.

🔹 YouAca4Seniors
Promoting active ageing, social inclusion, and intergenerational cooperation through sport. The project brings together young leaders (18–30) and seniors (55+) to co-design inclusive sport programmes. This weekend, partners will meet in Finland for the Transnational Partner Meeting alongside the CSIT Senior Formation Course.

🔹 PLAYINC4KIDS
Creating inclusive grassroots sport environments for children aged 6–13, with and without disabilities. The project equips coaches with specialised training and supports the development of inclusive teams where every child can thrive.

🔹 EOLHSS
Addressing hate speech and discrimination against LGBTIQ+ individuals in sport. Through research, data collection, and stakeholder engagement across Europe, the project aims to develop practical tools and recommendations for sport organisations.

Together, these projects reflect CSIT’s commitment to inclusion, equality, participation, and innovation in sport across Europe. 🌍🤝

🧠🏃‍♀️ Mental health matters: supporting athlete mothers beyond performance

Becoming a mother should not mean navigating sport alone.
Yet for many women athletes, pregnancy and return‑to‑sport bring not only physical challenges, but significant mental and emotional pressures.

Research shows that the peak years of athletic performance often overlap with the years women choose to have children, creating a demanding balance between identity, expectations, and career continuity.

Athletes report:
🫨 Stress and identity conflict between being a mother and a professional athlete
🤰 Fear that pregnancy may signal the end of their career or financial stability
🙁 Lack of clear guidance and support, leading to uncertainty, anxiety, and isolation

At the same time, the postpartum phase brings additional mental health risks:
👉 Around 20% of women experience postpartum depression, with factors like return‑to‑sport pressure and body changes influencing well‑being.

🌍 How MAMA contributes
The MAMA project directly addresses these gaps by:
🔹 Raising awareness about the psychological challenges of athlete motherhood
🔹 Providing e‑learning tools on mental health, rights, and safe return‑to‑sport
🔹 Supporting organizations to build inclusive and supportive environments
🔹 Strengthening networks across Europe to ensure no athlete faces motherhood alone

Because supporting women in sport means supporting the whole person, not just the performance.

🚶‍♀️ What prevents seniors from being more active in sport?

Health challenges, mobility limitations, lack of accessible facilities, or transportation issues are some of the physical barriers older adults may face when participating in sport and physical activity.

Through the YouACA4Seniors survey, we want to better understand these challenges and help create safer, more inclusive, and accessible sport environments across Europe. 🌍💙

Your opinion matters — help us improve opportunities for active ageing and intergenerational sport participation!

🧠 Motivation and confidence are key to active ageing.

Many seniors experience psychological barriers that reduce participation in sport activities — including fear of competitiveness, low self-confidence, lack of social support, or simply feeling that sport programmes are not designed for them.

The YouACA4Seniors project aims to identify these challenges and develop more inclusive and welcoming sport activities for people aged 55+. 🤝✨

Take part in our survey and help shape the future of intergenerational sport in Europe!

🌟 Why does senior participation matter?

Active participation of older adults strengthens communities, improves wellbeing, reduces social isolation, and promotes healthier lifestyles for all generations. 👵👴💙

Seniors bring experience, knowledge, and connection that enrich sport and community life. That’s why projects like YouACA4Seniors are so important! ⚽🌍

By participating in our survey, you help us develop better coaching methods, inclusive sport programmes, and good practices that support active ageing across Europe. 🤝
