Another great win, Jack – the streak continues! 👏

After the summer break, two more ranking tournaments remain on the schedule before the preliminary event for the Austrian Seniors Championship, where the final four players will be determined. Those players will then compete for the national title at the ÖSBV Finals in January 2027.

DAVE CAUSIER WINS AUSTRIAN 🇦🇹 AND EUROPEAN 🇪🇺 BILLIARDS OPEN IN VIENNA

After five days of world-class billiards at the National Snooker & BIlliards Academy in Vienna, the winner of both events is Dave Causier 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. With his victory at the European Open, the world number one now holds all World Billiards titles from the past 12 months, with the exception of the overseas events. This dominance was also reflected in the match results of the seemingly unbeatable Englishman, even in both finals against world number two Peter Gilchrist. 🇸🇬

The standard of play more than lived up to the strength of the field, which featured the top three players in the world rankings, including Rob Hall 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 in addition to those named above, as well as numerous competitors from the top 20. In addition to a highest break of 850 points in the Austrian Open, the number of games won in a single visit during the Matchplay format was another indication of the exceptional level displayed by the world's top ten players.

From an Austrian perspective, the highlights were the Round of 16 appearances by national champion Martin Schmidt and national snooker vice-champion Thomas Janzso.

Vienna can already look forward to 2028, when World Billiards will once again visit the Austrian capital. We are delighted with the professional yet highly amicable cooperation with the world governing body.

Special thanks go to Tournament Director Aonghus McAnally 🇮🇪 and WBL Directors Chris Coumbe 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and Darren Clark 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, who, in close cooperation with ÖSBV President Patrick Stegmeier and the local organizing team, supported by colleagues from Heeres- Snooker und English Billiards Club Hsebc, delivered an event that received overwhelmingly positive feedback from all participating players and officials.

Thank you to everyone involved in the organization and ex*****on of the event; thank you to all referees for their tireless and outstanding work; thank you to Andreas Kronlachner for providing a top-quality livestream production, the highlights of which will hopefully also be shown on national television; and thank you to our cooperation partners, WBL and HSEBC, for the pleasant and successful collaboration.

We look forward to a fantastic new WBL season and to welcoming a WBL event back to our Academy as hosts in the near future.

Congratulations to Dave Causier 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 on winning the World Billiards Austrian 🇦🇹 Open! 👏

In a decisive final, officiated by ÖSBV tutor Walter Kunz, the reigning world champion defeated his closest challenger, Peter Gilchrist 🇸🇬, and continued his winning streak in WBL events without interruption.

The world number one demonstrated at the first of two events in Vienna why he rightfully sits at the top of the rankings, further underlining his dominance with, among other achievements, the highest break of the tournament — a remarkable run of 8️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ points in his semi final against WBL director Darren Clark 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, officiated by ÖSBV referee Christian Fock.

Unfortunately, none of the Austrian players were able to qualifiy for the knock-out rounds.

Attention now turns to the currently ongoing European 🇪🇺 Open, which is being played in Matchplay format using modified rules. While matches at the Austrian Open were contested on a timed basis, matches here are played over best-of distances, with each game played to 100 points. The tournament winner will be determined on Wednesday in a best-of-11 final.

The event is being held at the National Snooker and Billiards Academy, Hütteldorfer Straße 150–154, 1140 Vienna. Admission is free.
