Lechner Racing - the most successful team in the era of the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car
The history of Lechner Racing started more than 45 years ago when Walter Lechner Sr. drove his first race in 1975. The team, formerly mostly known as Lechner Racing school, quickly established a broad recognition on the international race tracks celebrating successes in various formula classes. ner Sr., a 'late-bloomer' in terms of racing, himself won multiple championships during his two decade lasting professional racing career. In 1987 Walter Lechner crowned himself European Formula Ford Champion, 1982 he won both the Germans and the European title in Formula Super Vau. During the 1980s came his greatest success winning the Sports Car Interseries on several occasions and participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1988 and 1989 in a Porsche 962. Since than, the partnership between Walter Lechner and Porsche blossomed. In 2003, Lechner Racing entered the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, the supporting race of the Formula 1. Between 2005 and 2020 Lechner Racing won Eight Driver Championships (2005, 2010-2012, 2016-2019) and additionally the Team Championship in 2005, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2014-2020. In total, Lechner Racing achieved 170 Podiums out of 162 races. Furthermore, in 2011 Lechner Racing achieved a great success by claiming Double Pole and Double Podium during the Porsche Carrera World Cup with more than 100 cars participating.
