Open Letter to the Austrian Cricket Community:
It is with regret that we address recent developments concerning the Austrian Cricket Association (ACA) and its decision to exclude the Vienna Cricket Club (VCC) and the Seebarn Cricket Ground from official participation in the 2025 season.
This exclusion appears to be a direct response to Vienna Cricket Club’s position as operator of the Seebarn Cricket Ground, and its decision not to offer dates for ACA T20 League matches for the upcoming season. This decision was made in light of two significant and unresolved matters:
1. An outstanding payment of EUR 4,950 from the 2024 season remains unpaid by the ACA.
2. The ACA has unilaterally decided not to honour previously agreed match fees for T20 League fixtures, without any formally communicated amendment to the agreement.

3. Furthermore, the VCC has raised serious concerns regarding the handling of allegations made against its president, Mr Simon Birch, who has been accused of racist conduct towards the ACA Chairman, Mr Mohammad Bilal Zalmai. VCC has insisted that these allegations be addressed through fair and transparent procedures, in alignment with prior agreements between the parties. Regrettably, these expectations have not been met.
In reaction to this situation, the ACA has now instructed all clubs affiliated with the Association to refrain from participating in friendly matches at the Seebarn Cricket Ground. This directive, in our view, contradicts the inclusive and community-oriented spirit enshrined in the ACA’s own statutes.
Despite these developments, we remain committed to fostering an open and welcoming cricket environment. The Seebarn Cricket Ground continues to stand as a space for friendship, competition, and mutual respect. We warmly invite all clubs and individuals—irrespective of affiliation—to participate in friendly matches and community events hosted at our venue throughout the 2025 season and beyond.
We remain hopeful that constructive dialogue and adherence to fair governance practices will ultimately prevail within the Austrian cricketing landscape.
With respect and commitment to the game,
Vienna Cricket Club
Operator of Seebarn Cricket Ground
