Match Report: LCC vs BCCA - 24.08.2024

It was another thrilling Saturday at the cricket ground, but this time the spotlight was on Anthony Lark, who made a remarkable comeback to Lords CC after rejoining the team just a few days ago. Playing his first match of 2024 against Bangladesh CC Austria, Lark delivered a sensational performance that left the crowd in awe.

Opening the batting alongside Sagar Memane, Lark looked unstoppable from the very first ball. He played with the kind of fluency and confidence that one usually sees in the nets, striking the ball to all corners of the field. Lark reached his century in just 46 balls, an extraordinary feat, eventually scoring 114 off 55 deliveries. His explosive innings included 12 fours and 7 sixes. Lark and Memane put up a solid opening partnership of 115 runs in just 11 overs before Memane was dismissed for 29 runs off 29 balls. Sahil Bharti, who was the star last week, contributed 21 runs off 13 balls, helping Lords CC post a formidable total of 200/6 for the second consecutive time.

Bangladesh CC Austria had a tough time in their chase. Wasif Saluja opened the bowling for Lords and made an immediate impact by dismissing U. Mazumdar on his second ball, caught brilliantly by Anthony Lark. After that early breakthrough, Bangladesh CC Austria struggled to find any rhythm, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. They were reduced to 54/7 within 10 overs, unable to recover from the early blows.

M. Shamim Miah was the lone warrior for BCCA, showing some resistance with a valiant 36 off 28 balls, but it wasn’t enough to steer his team to victory. BCCA was eventually bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Wasif Saluja was the pick of the bowlers for Lords CC, claiming 3 wickets for just 19 runs in his 4 overs. Anthony Lark, capping off a memorable all-round performance, took 2 wickets for 6 runs in his 2 overs, while Sunil Dutt also chipped in with 2 wickets.

This dominant win not only secured valuable points for Lords CC but also gave a significant boost to their Net Run Rate, setting them up strongly for the rest of the season.

A Historic Day in Austrian Cricket: Sahil Bharti's Record-Breaking Knock

The sun blazed high in the clear blue sky, casting a golden glow over the cricket field on a scorching summer day in Austria, with temperatures soaring to 35°C. This was the stage for what would become a landmark moment in Austrian cricket history.

Captain Kumud Jha won the toss and opted to bat first against Snasy2, a team renowned for its fierce competitiveness. With the pitch seemingly perfect for batting, the decision to bat first appeared sound, but no one could have anticipated the dramatic turn of events that was about to unfold.

Kumud Jha and Sagar Memane took to the field with high hopes, but Kumud’s stay was shockingly brief. He faced just five balls before being dismissed for a duck, leaving the team in early trouble. Muzamil Omarkhel came in next, attempting to stabilize the innings. Despite his efforts, Omarkhel was out for 11 in the third over, leaving the team at a precarious 17/2.

At this critical juncture, Sahil Bharti was promoted up the order. Known for his explosive finishing abilities in recent matches, Sahil had yet to deliver a truly monumental innings. As he took his position, the atmosphere was thick with anticipation. From his very first ball, it was clear that Sahil was poised to deliver something extraordinary.

Sahil approached his first ball with caution, acclimating himself to the pitch. By the fourth ball of the next over, his second ball, Sahil had already struck a perfectly timed boundary through the covers. The subsequent delivery also resulted in a boundary, but with greater authority. The sixth ball of that over was dispatched over the ropes for a six, sending the spectators into a frenzy of excitement.

This was only the beginning. Sahil was clearly in top form, and the bowlers had no answers to his assault. He reached fifty in just 20 balls, having hit 4 fours and 5 sixes. Remarkably, his second fifty came even faster—off just 13 balls—with 5 fours and 5 sixes. His remarkable century was achieved in just 33 deliveries.

The bowlers tried everything—pace, spin, yorkers, and bouncers—but Sahil was unstoppable, sending the ball sailing over every part of the ground. His innings was a masterclass in aggressive yet calculated batting.

Finally, Sahil was dismissed for 122 runs off just 48 balls, having smashed 12 sixes and 9 fours. As he walked off the field, the crowd rose to applaud, acknowledging a performance that would be remembered for years. For those lucky enough to witness it, that hot summer day in Austria will be forever etched in memory as Sahil crafted one of the greatest knocks in Austrian cricket history.

Match number 13 and the last match of the league for LCC. Equation was simple : win the match and ensure place in division 1 next year. Winning the toss, LCC decided to bat first with a clear goal in mind to build partnerships and this is exactly what Sagar Memane .memane and Nandeep Soggi did with their 108 runs partnership. To add to this, quick fire innings from Sahil Bharti and Paygham Omari helped LCC register an above par score of 196/8. SEPCC started their chase with little caution and ocassional aggression which was not enough for their required rate of around 10 per over. Early breakthrough from Nandeep Soggi hampered their chase even more. Some middle order partnerships from SEPC batsmen did look promising but were not enough as they were well challenged by LCC's bowling attack, especially the medium pace from Gursewak Sandhu who bagged 4/15. Finally, SEPCC were bowled out at 148 and LCC won by a huge margin of 48 runs. Nandeep Soggi for his all round performance of 53(31) runs and 2/20 wickets was declared the man of the match. With this victory LCC regained their well deserved position in division 1 and the star performer of the season for LCC, Sagar Memane .memane , joined the 1000+ runs and 100+ wickets club of LCC. Congratulations Sagar Memane and Lords Cricket Club!

Good bye for season 2023 and we'll come back with live updates of LCC's season 2024. Stay tuned!

After a very close loss in their last match, LCC made a strong comeback by winning their match against UNCC by a whooping margin of 86 runs. Winning the toss, UNCC asked LCC to bat first in a cloudy and breezy afternoon. Carrying on the wonderful knock of 80 in the last match, opener Sagar Memane .memane showcased another batting delight with an unbeaten century this time. Well supported by his opening partner, Kumud Jha, they put on an opening stand of 161 runs. Finally, a quick fire inning from Paygham Omari brought LCC to a strong total 214. UNCC started their chase pretty aggressively but a superb run-out by Nandeep Soggi brought the first halt on their chase. Post this, a disciplined and mixed bowling from LCC did not let any batsman to settle in and eventually UNCC could only manage 128 runs losing 9 wickets. Sagar Memane for his yet another batting master class was adjudged the man of the match!
