Time for new adventures.

We have decided not to proceed with our Olympic campaign towards Paris 2024. Sadly, this means that 4,5 years of sailing together as a team in the 49erFX is coming to an end.

After profound consideration, Mikaela Wulff has decided it's time for new challenges after 17 years of Olympic level sailing, the highlight of her career being a bronze medal in London 2012. Noora Ruskola, a 49erFX Olympian from Rio 2016, is exploring new opportunities towards Paris.

We are incredibly thankful for our amazing sponsors without them this campaign would not have been possible. We want to thank Audi Finland, our title sponsor from the very beginning and Wulff for supporting us and encouraging us. A special thanks to AUDI for providing us with the beautiful Q3 and Q5 cars for safe and smooth journeys and J.Lindeberg and Robline for providing us with amazing clothes and gear.

We lost our dream to compete at Tokyo Olympics - a dream we've been working towards for 4 years.

We failed to qualify our country. It is something we always knew was a possibility but didn’t want to accept. After all, it is a competition and everyone can't win.

We are happy with how we fought until the end at this final event. The racing was great and really simulated an event like World Championships, with all the best teams giving their all. We made the best out of our situation, which sadly wasn’t enough. Losing the qualification highlights our biggest challenge throughout the campaign. Having a coach by our side for a longer period of time has been a challenging task for us to solve. We have had great coaches but none of them long enough.

Congratulations to the Belgian girls who sailed an incredible event finishing 7th overall and winning the final ticket (as a European) to the Olympic games.

We are incredibly thankful for all of the support we received throughout our campaign - a special thanks to Audi Finland our primary sponsor and Wulff, as well as our family, friends and professionals that helped us to further improve as athletes.

During the past 4 years we built a strong team and feel like we still have a lot to give.
Tokyo Olympic campaign has been an incredible journey, but it is time to close this chapter and look ahead. One thing is for certain, we gave 100% but for now, we'll breathe and relax.

Good news 🤩
Despite Mikaela's thumb recovery is still ongoing, we decided to go to the European Championships in Austria. 🎉💫
It is one of the most important competitions this year and for sure one of the only few that will or have been held due to COVID.
Going to this event required traveling which is not something we would like to promote on times like these, but as athletes, this is our job.
We have been staying home for as long as possible to avoid traveling until this point. That's why we are super excited to finally get back to this 🤙

Last week was pretty intense. On Monday we had a training camp here in Helsinki and it was a nice breezy day😉. During the downwind, I lowered myself on the trap and the next thing I see is my thumb in the trapeze cleat 😳🥺 I thought for a moment that I lost the whole finger but luckily not.

The thumb was pretty destroyed and it needed surgery. Early in the morning on Friday was 🔪 time. It was a challenging 1,5hr surgery but it went well! Now I have a robocop finger😂🤷🏼‍♀️ At least I will get a strong thumb 💪🏻🦾 After 5 weeks we'll know better when I can sail again 🤩🤩 Big thanks to family, friends and sponsors for supporting me ❤️

Tokyo 2020 Olympics is now postponed until next year!
We think it is a responsible move and the right thing to do, since pandemic is no joke and it is affecting all of us, so we need to take it seriously.
We are for now isolating our selves at home as hopefully you are to. 🏠

We would love to start planning the upcoming year but for now we just have to wait and see when and where we can start sailing.

It is a really bizarre situation but we are focusing on the positives. That is the only thing we can do right now.
Olympics being postponed with one year means we have more time to train and get better😎🏆
Our goal to succeed at the Tokyo Olympics is still the same. Whenever the olympics are held, we will be ready! 🔥
