The REME Sport Parachute Team are a team of Regular and Reserve Soldiers and Officers of the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers - REME who compete at all levels, and in all disciplines of Sport Parachuting.

Last week LCpl Paige Smith (4 REME) and Cfn Cian Moore (3 REME) represented Great Britain at the 6th FAI World Cup of Speed Skydiving & 5th FAI European Speed Skydiving Championships in Hohenems, Austria.

A fantastic experience and opportunity to represent at an international level where our junior soldiers excelled!

Over the weekend 5 members of the REME Parachute Team competed in the British Skydiving National Championships in Speed Skydiving.

Over 8 jumps competitors exit the aircraft and attempt to record the fastest speed they can, before safely opening their parachutes.

REME Success:

LCpl Paige Smith of 4 Bn REME: Second (Silver) in the Junior Open Category AND set a new British Junior Speed record: 340kmh in one jump!

Cfn Cian Moore of 3 Bn REME won the Junior Open Category AND set a new British Junior Speed record: 411kmh in one jump!

Due to their phenomenal performances, LCpl Smith, and Cfn Moore, AND Cpl Will Lawrence of 35EOD&S Wksp have been invited to represent Team GB at the 2026 Speed Skydiving World Championships!

Today is National Sporting Heritage Day so let's look at a story of REME sporting heritage 👇

🪂 Parachutes have been used in warfare since WW1 and it was military parachutists that developed parachuting as a sport after WW2.

The REME Parachute Club was formed in 1966 by Captain Ian Macpherson, a pioneer of modern free fall parachuting. By 1981 they were regular winners of the Best Corps Team Trophy at the Armed Forces Parachute Championships.

Now called the Lightning Bolts Army Parachute Display Team, they regularly 'drop in' on parades, shows and other events.
