Should I switch off my SIAC's AIR+ Mode after Clear and Check?🤓💡
Our clear recommendation: No. There is a common misconception among orienteers that turning off the SIAC's AIR+ Mode after “Clear” and “Check” will help preserve the battery. However, the SIAC's energy consumption in AIR+ Mode is so minimal that it has only a minor effect on battery life.
When the SIAC passes the FINISH Control Station, it is automatically switched off. Even if a runner retires from a race, he doesn’t need to manually deactivate the SIAC. The AIR+ Mode will automatically switch off about 20 hours after the last punch. However, is important that the runner reports back to the event centre so the organiser can track whether all participants have safely returned.
If needed, it can also be manually deactivated at any time using the SIAC OFF Control Station.
