Introducing Tine Moberg-Parker - COACH, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

Tine is the head Opti Coach at West Vancouver Yacht Club. In addition to having competed in the Opti Worlds as a sailor, Tine has also coached more than 15 teams at international IODA events.

Tine is excited for the Team Canada sailors to get to know each other and new friends from other countries, and improve on their skills at a competitive, international event. And most of all, love sailing at a new level.

Introducing Max Watson - CAN 1587, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

Max is 14 years old and sails with the West Vancouver Yacht Club Opti race team, which he joined when he was 11. Max will be presenting Canada for the first time as a member of the Canadian National Team. Max is looking forward to travelling with the team and new experiences in Paraguay.

Introducing Callum Douglas - CAN 1768, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

13 year old Callum races with the Comox Bay Sailing Association, where he’s been a sailing since he was 5. This is Callum’s first event as part of the Canadian National Team. Callum is excited to wear the Maple Leaf, go racing, and make new friends in Paraguay.

Introducing Miles Heeney - Can 1768, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

Miles is 12 years old and sails with the West Vancouver Yacht Club, where he started sailing at 7. This is Mile’s first time being selected as a member of the Canadian National Team. Miles is looking most forward to the experience of sailing in an international event.

Introducing Koko Lee - CAN 1920, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

14 year old Koko currently sails for Yacht Club Olivos, and started racing with Pointe-Claire Yacht Club when she was 7. This will be Koko’s first international event as part of the Canadian National Team. She is really excited for her first SUDS event and is hoping for good wind and an unforgettable experience.

“I want to acknowledge the people who have helped me through my seven years of competing in optimist. Caroso, my sailing coach, always there to help and joke around. Loredana, for supporting my sailing career even though she wanted me to dedicate in swimming. My dad for the support, the efforts and companionship. My mom for the advices, the encouragements and the sacrifices. My brothers, who always drive me crazy, but also have sacrificed dreams of their own to support mine. Lastly, myself for not giving up. We have came a long way and I am so proud of myself.”

Introducing Kayden Lo - CAN 1485, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

Kayden is 11 years old and sails with the West Vancouver Yacht Club, Puget Sound Sailing Team and Best Coast Sailing. He started sailing in summer camp when he was 6 years old, and joined the WVYC Opti race team when he was 8. This is Kayden’s first time as a member of the Canadian National Team. Kayden is looking forward to meeting new people and sailing in an international event.

Introducing Yiyang Qiu - CAN 1916, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

Yiyang is 12 years old and races on the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron team. He has been sailing since he was 8, and started racing at 10 in Xuan Wu Lake, China. This is Yiyang’s first time participating on of the Canadian National Team.

“I’m most excited about racing against top young sailors at the OPTI South American Championship in Paraguay. It’s a great chance to sharpen my skills, make new friends, and enjoy the unique sailing conditions there!”

Introducing Hayden Keilman - Can 1900, Team Canada 🇨🇦 for the 2024 Optimist South American Championship in Encarnacion, Paraguay.

Hayden is 13 years old and has been sailing with Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club since he was 5 years old. He is a member of the Canadian National Team and this will be his second time representing Canada at an IODA event. Hayden is most excited about achieving his personal best result.
