Yesterday, on August 1st we gathered in Kabul for a heartfelt farewell to our friend, Aliakbar Sakhi. His journey home wasn't easy – last year, he lost his life on K2 due to being left alone overnight in harsh weather at 7300metres. But this year, with the help of the Pakistani government and the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad we finally brought him back.
Aliakbar's wish was to rest in Kabul, and now that wish has come true. This was more than a journey; it was a reminder of the bond between nations and the strength of friendship. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
He lost his life to represent his country and nation in a positive light. He was the first Afghan mountaineer to attempt climbing K2. Today, he rests in peace, leaving behind a story of courage and unity. May Aliakbar inspire us all to reach for our dreams, no matter how challenging.
Rest in peace Brother, you will be missed 🙏🏽
