The official squad for the India series have been announced. Naveen has been called in without any match fitness. Not sure whether it's just to make him comfortable in the dressing room after a prolonged gap or the team management is serious about making him play in the series without any prior game time. As expected Darwish, Nangyal & Abdullah will join the Asian Games squad after finishing the series. For a change, Noor Rahman have been roped in as a backup option to Gurbaz. He must take notes from the experienced coaching staff like Pybus & Radford and uplift his career as a consistent batter. Right now his T20 game is totally out of sorts. He looks very confused & unclear about his role & approach. His fitness is also a key issue at the moment. The rest of the squad is very experienced & on the expected lines. 🇦🇫 🏏

The recent success of Bangladesh cricket team can be easily attributed to their fast bowlers who always kept them in the hunt in the recently concluded test series against Australia. The people who mentored them from behind in recent years are acclaimed fast bowlers themselves like Alan Donald & Shaun Tait. The B'deshi fast bowling brigade benefitted so much that they stayed in touch through WhatsApp groups even after these greats moved on from Bangladesh cricket. Compare that to Afghanistan who are not so keen in hiring a proper fast bowling coach. Instead they're pretty much satisfied with Hamid Hassan who has not produced an ounce of visible improvement even after staying in this role for over 3 years. Cricket can be very unforgiving if you do not take right decisions at appropriate time. I expect if Hamid Hassan has a bit of accountability left, he should immediately resign from this post voluntarily for the sake of a better future. 🇦🇫 🏏

What is absolutely shocking is the omission of Arshaduddin Safi who was the highest run getter of the pathway Mirwais Neka 3-day event. In this way the selectors are cunningly breaking the confidence of such players in spite of putting up good performances. Therefore this so called circus in the name of performance must stop immediately and the necessary course correction must be done. The officials have to answer how this unjust selection have happened after a clearcut criteria. Just letting them know that the 19th ranked batter Mobin Bakhtyar, 24th ranked Ezat Noor, 27th ranked Saif Nangyal, 11th ranked bowler Enayatullah have all been smartly added to the first class squads. There are a lot more similar examples like this. Now the same old Yo-Yo game mustn't put up as an excuse to hide these blunders. We all know that Mohd Shehzad can't even pass this test even if evaluators set the benchmark to 12. And he is there in these squads along with Samiullah Shinwari, Shawkat Zaman, Sayed Shirzad and a lot of other test discards just for grabbing first class participation paychecks. 🇦🇫 🏏

The squads of this first class event are not very impressive looking at the future prospects of building a strong red ball team. A lot of potential players have been exempted & in those places many sloggers & dated players have been roped in who are poor in red ball skills. Overall very disappointing. It's clear that ACB is not taking test cricket seriously. A handful of players from the last U19 batch has been given a chance which is the one of the positives though. 🇦🇫 🏏

That's the Afghanistan's squad for the Asian Games to be hosted by Japan. A lot of focus has been given to power striking & allround skills.

Openers: Hassan, Taniwal, Akram & Imran
Top & Middle Order: Faisal, Darwish, Najib
Keeper: Ishaq Rahimi
Allrounders: Karim, Ismat & Farman
Spin: Nangyal, Arab Gul
Pacers: Abdullah & Faridoon

But I've made certain observations regarding the team selection.

🚨 Abdullah Tarakhil once again was robbed off a deserving opportunity & could have been acomodated in place of any of these allrounders - Karim, Ismat & Farman. He was absolutely superb in Shpageeza. There are too many similar allrounders pushed into the side without adding any variety & value.

🚨 Ishaq Rahimi has become a darling of ACB without any substantial talent & performances. Similarly Darwish is being presented with too many opportunities without much success.

🚨 Arab Gul in my opinion do not have the ability to lead the spin attack alone. There should've been a better & more acclaimed spinner as the primary one. Only batters can pull off miracles in this event else this bowling lineup is quite fragile, inexperienced & untested. I have very little hopes from them.

It will be interesting to see how this batch performs. Afghanistan will play the qualifier against the hosts Japan & Nepal before proceeding towards quarter final. 🇦🇫 🏏
