HASSL speaks my mind 🧠
I’ve been following their journey over the past year and had that real moment of “YES… this is it.” The world needs this!
For years, I’ve taught girls self-defence, as I was never taught about grooming, awareness, predators etc when I was growing up. There were no open conversations around these topics.
So when my teen girl students ask me, "Why do we have to learn to protect ourselves, why can't we just stop being harassed?!"
🔥🔥 GREAT QUESTION!!
Because while teaching girls awareness and self defence matters, it can’t be the only answer.
The root causes are so much bigger and more complicated:
patriarchy, misogyny, lack of accountability, religion, poor education, cultural norms, different laws in different countries… the list goes on.
Sometimes it’s felt difficult to fully articulate that tension in my work. That’s why becoming a HASSL ambassador felt so aligned.
Change can't happen by endlessly telling women & girls to “be careful.”
Real change happens when society starts taking collective responsibility for safety.
And that conversation has already started shifting in my own classes too.
I’m now teaching boys as well; about respect, consent, boundaries, accountability, managing emotions etc.
Because safer spaces are created by culture shifts, education, and communities willing to do better.
Very proud to be part of this!! ❤️
