The Sindhi Cricket Committee (SCC) comprises of 3 members lead by Shiva Pagarani (Yogi Group), Paresh Amarnani (Malawi Trading) and Yogesh Odhrani (ESMA Group). Looking at the keen interest of the new and the old from the Sindhi Community and from past leagues played in Dubai within the Asian community, the SCC, under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) put together a league to motivat
e the talented young players and to encourage the passion of many Sindhi’s in the city. stepped into the cricketing arena, better known for their business and trade acumen rather than cricketing skills. from various trades, but have now ventured into a new field – to exhibit their love and talent for cricket, since the SCC formed its own league and play regularly. Some great names from the Sindhi community are mesmerized by India’s first opening batsman, Naoomal Jeoomal, who scored 33 and 25 in India’s first ever test match at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium in England in 1932. If that is not enough, former Indian captain G.S. Ramchand, who led India to victory over Australia in the Kanpur Test against Richie Benaud’s Australian team in 1959-60, is also from the Sindhi community. A man of skills and talent is presented by the name of a leg-spinner, Narendra Hirwani, who made a sensational debut, bagging 16 wickets against West Indies in the Chennai Test in January 1988. The Sindhi community has so far confined their love for the game to just sponsoring local tournaments, but with this platform, players are now geared up to field a strong team in the league matches being played every cricketing season in Dubai. Since the formation of the premier league that has been played since January 2012, a huge response has resulted even from outside the U.A.E. Many countries have invited our teams to play against their clubs and the SCC is looking at possible tours of Kenya, Spain, England, and several other destinations to nurture the passion of the sport. The SCC shall launch the next league match which will be contested by seven teams of 17 players each from October 2012 onwards looking at the overwhelming support and requests from many businessmen who want to play the game.
