Desert Lankans Cricket Club (DLCC) was formed by a group of Sri Lankan cricket enthusiasts in 1994. It was inaugurated with the help of few members whose primary objective was to play a good game of tape ball cricket on Fridays, the only day off for the week at that time. The club has since evolved to be a strong unit and has marked it's presence among the Sri Lankan expatriates community in Unite
d Arab Emirates. The governance of the club is well thought after and it evolves around the club constitution which was drafted in the year 2004. This governance is patronized by a team of past DLCC presidents who would ensure the common interest and the culture are maintained by the management during it's tenure. The day to day club affairs are managed by a committee, headed by a president for a period of 24 months. The well structured design of club's affairs and it's active participation of selected community and social events has helped to gain Desert Lankans CC, social recognition beyond cricket. In the recent past, the club has actively involved in various community and charitable events in UAE as well as in Sri Lanka. With approximately 50 members and strives to remain as a decent medium size club, while maintaining the standard and disciplined brand of cricket on every Friday afternoon, thoughtfully drafted annual calendar of events helps to ensure a mixed bag of activities to entertain not only the members, but also their families. Because of that the club has transformed into a family oriented cricket club. Competitive cricket tournaments, indoor sporting events, social events, family outings and open entertainment like Gala dinner dance and annual get together are in the events calendar to ensure entertainment through out the year. And finally an annual general meeting conducted to emphasize the accountability and transparency of the club's activities. Desert Lankans CC owes it's gratitude to all the past and present members who helped to transform into it's current form and to the numerous people and institutes who helped to develop this club into a recognized social club as well as for the services, assistance and guidance. The club takes the great pleasure to thank United Arab Emirates, the wonderful state for providing all the members and their families the opportunity to live, to work and to play.
