Most busy professionals don’t struggle to lose weight because of a lack of information.

They struggle because they’re making a few simple mistakes consistently every week.

The first mistake is not tracking their food intake.

Before you panic, tracking doesn’t necessarily mean weighing every gram of food or counting every calorie.

It can be as simple as keeping a food diary, taking photos of your meals, or honestly reviewing what you eat from Monday to Sunday.

Most people remember what they ate on Tuesday.

Very few remember what happened on Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday evening.

The second mistake is confusing healthy eating with fat loss.

Healthy food can absolutely make you gain weight.

I once had a client who was drinking two avocado smoothies every day because he thought they were healthy.

And he was right.

They were healthy.

The problem was they were also packed with calories.

As a result, he wasn’t creating the calorie deficit needed for fat loss.

The third mistake is not eating enough protein.

Protein helps control hunger, supports recovery, and helps preserve muscle while losing body fat.

Most men who walk through our doors aren’t eating anywhere near enough.

The reality is that fat loss isn’t about detox teas, fat burners, fasting protocols, or cutting out entire food groups.

It’s about creating a system you can consistently follow week after week.

Fat Loss Is Simple.

It only feels complicated because there are so many voices in the fitness, nutrition, wellness, and longevity space trying to convince you otherwise.

The reality?

For most people, fat loss comes down to three things.

1. Calorie Deficit

This is the foundation.

If you’re not consistently consuming fewer calories than you burn, fat loss won’t happen.

You need a simple system and structure around your nutrition that you can follow Monday to Sunday.

Not Monday to Thursday.

Not “until the weekend.”

Monday to Sunday.

2. Weekly Movement

Your total weekly movement plays a massive role in energy expenditure.

The problem is that most people barely move.

They sit at a desk for 8 hours.

They sit in the car.

They sit on the sofa at night.

Then they wonder why three gym sessions per week aren’t producing the results they want.

For most people, daily walking is one of the most underrated fat loss tools available.

3. Resistance Training

5 Hacks I Use to Create a 4,000-Calorie Weekly Deficit Without Counting Calories or Starving Myself.

Losing fat should be a fairly simple process.

Unfortunately, too many people and too many coaches still make it far more complicated than it needs to be.

The truth is that fat loss often comes down to making a series of small, smart swaps throughout the week.

The reason these swaps work so well is simple.

You’re not completely cutting foods out.

You’re replacing higher-calorie foods with lower-calorie foods.

In psychology, this is known as habit substitution.

Rather than trying to eliminate a habit altogether, you replace it with a behaviour that delivers a similar reward while moving you closer to your goal.

Most people find this much easier because they don’t feel like they’re missing out on the habits they’ve built over the last 10 years.

We’re creatures of habit.

The hardest thing to do isn’t eating less.

It’s stopping something you’ve done every day for years.

That’s why I prefer simple substitutions over extreme restrictions.

When I ask new clients what they think will bring them the best results in the gym, most of them say the same thing.

A particular exercise.

A particular rep range.

A particular training split.

Or they tell me they need access to the latest and greatest equipment.

They think the gym with 10 different chest machines must produce better results than the gym with 2.

But the reality is very different.

You can build muscle with barbells.

You can build muscle with dumbbells.

You can build muscle doing 6 reps.

You can build muscle doing 20 reps.

The biggest thing missing from 99% of training programs isn’t exercise selection.

It’s technique.

Because technique determines how much tension the target muscle actually receives.

If your technique is poor, you’ll compensate with other muscles.

If your technique is poor, you’ll struggle to train with real intensity.

If your technique is poor, you’ll eventually increase your risk of injury.

Most people aren’t failing because they picked the wrong exercise.

They’re failing because they’re performing the right exercise badly.

Technique is king.

Master movement first.

Then worry about everything else.

I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve heard…

“Full body workouts are for beginners.”

Now I understand why men believe this is true when it comes to building muscle and strength.

Especially muscle.

They see bodybuilders and influencers on social media talking about chest day, back day, shoulder day, arm day.

And when the guy talking has muscles on top of muscles…

You automatically believe him.

Why wouldn’t you?

Clearly he’s doing something right.

However, here is the catch.

The guy is usually:
• a pro bodybuilder
• a full time influencer
• has no kids
• trains like it’s his full time job
• and has been taking steroids for the last 5-10 years.

He hasn’t missed a workout since Covid lockdowns.

And he probably cries himself to sleep if he only hits 280g of protein instead of 300g.

Meanwhile…

You’re skipping breakfast because you got up late.

You get to work and have a coffee and a couple of dates.

Lunch is a sandwich and a protein bar eaten at your desk while replying to emails.

Dinner is at 10pm after the kids football, your wife wanting to go out for coffee and your third stressful meeting of the day.

Then add on:
• poor sleep
• inconsistent gym attendance
• stress through the roof
• and weekends that start with “just one drink”.

You’ll never convince me that bodybuilding style body part splits are the most effective way for the general population to build strength and muscle.

For most men?

A properly structured full body training program done consistently 3 times per week is hard to beat.

Especially for busy fathers and businessmen over 40.
