For new visitors, please be advised that the Abu Dhabi Falcons are in fact, no more. This page is more of an archive of what was accomplished before it was "absorbed" by the Abu Dhabi Ice Sports Club (ADISC). Up until that time, the Falcons were entirely organized and run by volunteer expats - a testament to the strong desire among expats / hockey fans who have since come and gone .. to make time to help the sport of ice hockey not only survive but thrive in Abu Dhabi.
Since the ADISC (http://www.adisc.ae/site/) took over, professional coaches have been hired, participation in tournaments has increased, ice time has become more available.. and most important of all, opportunities to play hockey for kids of all ages continues be made available.
The ADISC took it over as part of their overall plan to have ice hockey in the UAE officially recognized by the IIHF. To be more explicit, one of the IIHF's requirements before bestowing its recognition and support for the sport in any country, is the country needs' to demonstrate it's sincere and long term commitment to promote the sport by putting in place a National Ice Hockey Club, then an amateur hockey system starting at 6 to 8 years, and a National Team that is supported by this system. All of this is done in an effort to help promote the growth of the sport nationally.
If you were an expat who played, coached or helped organize events to help support the organization you should stand proud knowing that your contributions helped create a base for realizing ice hockey in Abu Dhabi and for that matter - the UAE.
