NYUAD Gully Cricket Rules
Team Composition:
· The squad should consist of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 players.
· The matches will be six-a-side with at least 1 girl playing for each team.
· We encourage not more than 3 members of the NYUAD cricket team to be part of the same team.
Game Rules:
· The matches will be played in the performance gym.
· Tape balls (tennis balls covered with tape) will be used for all the matches. Hence, protective equipment is optional.
· There will be 5 overs per innings, with one bowler allowed to bowl a maximum of 2 overs. At least three other teammates should bowl 1 over each.
· Bowling will strictly be in the form of “chucking” or “throwing” the ball. No run-ups or propelling arm actions will be allowed. Under-arm bowling is also not permitted.
· The wicket-keeper cannot be changed in the middle of an innings and he/she will not be allowed to bowl.
· LBW rule is not applicable for the league.
· Bowling will only be from one end.
· Opening batsmen cannot bowl the first over (and vice-versa).
· All wides and no balls will be re-bowled and would cost 1 run.
· There will be a free hit for no-balls.
· If a ball bounces twice before reaching the popping crease, it will be considered a dead ball.
· A batsman must “retire” once he reaches the 30 run landmark. He/she can come out to bat once again if all other batsmen are out.
· No by-runners will be allowed.
· There is no square boundary. If it crosses the marked line, whether on bounce or directly, two runs will be declared to the batsman. The boundaries will be explained to the captains before the start of the league.
· The ball will still be in play if it hits the roof. However, catch outs will not be applicable.
· There will be no fielding restrictions.
· It will be the captain’s responsibility that their team members are familiar with the basic laws of cricket before walking out for the toss on the 20th of February. Mentor sessions will help with this process.
· Umpires’ decisions are final.
· All other standard rules of cricket will apply.
