Cheetahs XI Vs BAC II match review
This was the final match of the season. BAC had held the summit for much of the season. Gampu Lions was breathing down their neck. And Cheetahs Cricket was in the way of their promotion to 2nd league. Cheetahs needed the victory to chance a 3rd place finish. Both teams had much to gain from victories on this penultimate match day.
Cheetahs came prepared and beefed up their squad by adding an extra batsman and an all rounder in the form of Bongani Dube and Herman Khoza. This move proved crucial.
BAC II second string team was weakened as their captain and 2 other senior players were missing on the day. Guess they didn't really need the victory.
Cheetahs won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers were undone quickly by the spin jutsu opening pair of bowlers. Sooner than not Cheetahs were on 8 for the loss of 3 wickets in only 2 overs. The captain, Chalton V Moyo, came to the park with a positive attitude. Joined by in form Farai Malunga, the pair put on an aggressive display of strokes and running. Farai was the first one out after posting easily the fastest half century for his team, 53 off 24 deliveries. Out came all rounder Herman who played a good supportive role of his captain and rotated strike consistently. Charlton was the next to lift his bat scoring 56 off 29 deliveries.
By the 15th over Cheetahs were well on their way to a massive total. Soon the skipper was out but the run fest did not end there. Herman went on to score his first ever half century with a knock of 55 from only 27 deliveries. In the end Cheetahs posted 180/6 after 20 overs and managed to acquire their first ever double batting bonus point score.
The hunger for victory did not end there. BAC II came out flashing their bats. Cheetahs frontline seamers were up to the task. After the first power play, BAC II were already 6 down. Spinners came and wrapped up the match within 10 overs. 2 more bonus points.
Final score Cheetahs 180/6 Vs BAC II 37/10
