🌍 WFC MEETS AFRICAN UNION TO ADVANCE SPINAL HEALTH INITIATIVES 🤝
A high-level delegation from the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC), led by Secretary-General Prof. Richard Brown, was welcomed to the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a landmark meeting with Her Excellency Ambassador Minata Samaté Sessouma, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.
This meeting marked a significant step forward in exploring collaborative strategies to address spinal pain, disability, and musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders across Africa.
Discussions focused on the global burden of MSK conditions, equitable access to spine care, and the role of chiropractic as a patient-centered, drug-free, and cost-effective model of care—particularly in underserved communities.
Also in attendance were Dr. Mufudzi Chihambakwe, President of the African Chiropractic Federation, and Dr. Selam Aklilu, President of the Chiropractic Association of Ethiopia, who highlighted efforts to expand chiropractic services, training, and integration into national health systems across the continent.
In a key outcome, the AU Commissioner proposed the drafting of a Memorandum of Agreement between the AU and WFC to formalize long-term collaboration on spinal health, musculoskeletal wellness, and health system capacity-building through chiropractic care.
