FAZ, ABSA UNVEIL K6.5 Million Rich Tournament for 2025…winners to walk away with K1,000,000
The 2025 Absa Cup has received a major financial boost with this year’s champions set to walk away with K1,000,000, up from K800,000 in 2024.
Runners-up will also benefit from an increase, now receiving K400,000, up from last year’s K350,000. The travel subsidy has been increased to K50,000, though this may vary depending on the geographical location of the teams participating with longer distances attracting the full package.
For the second time in the tournament’s history, the Absa Cup will feature 21 teams after the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and Absa Bank Zambia PLC approved a major format revamp last year. The competition will consist of 10 provincial teams, seven MTN Super League teams and four ZPL National League teams.
Speaking at the official launch and draw at Absa House Wednesday morning, Absa Bank Zambia PLC Managing Director Mizinga Melu disclosed that the total tournament sponsorship has grown to K6.5 million from K5.5 million in 2024.
“This increase in prize money is a testament to our commitment to uplifting Zambian football and ensuring that clubs have the resources to grow. Furthermore, we are excited to introduce additional incentives to recognize individual brilliance on the field,” Melu said.
“As we embark on this exciting journey, I encourage all teams to play with passion and integrity and for fans to continue bringing the energy that makes the Absa Cup special. Let's make the 2025 edition the best one yet.”
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the Association was happy that Absa had incorporated its decentralization setup in their tournament format by opening the door for provincial champions to be part of the tournament.
