JUST IN: About 8 people have died, while 10 others are nursing serious injuries at Monze Mission Hospital following an accident that occurred around 23 hours in Chuungu area of Monze district.

Byta FM learns that the accident occurred when a traditional healer lost control of his vehicle due to overspeeding and ran into a group of people gathered at a named house waiting for him to provide various services.

The community managed to intercept the vehicle and set it on fire, while the traditional healer and his 6 counterparts managed to flee the scene.

This was before an official statement by the police.

18 PUPILS ESCAPE DEATH AS MINIBUS CATCHES FIRE IN NJOMONA TOWNSHIP

A group of 18 pupils from Mazabuka Girls and St. Edmunds Secondary Schools narrowly escaped death after the minibus they were traveling in caught fire.

The incident occurred on the evening of 9th October 2024, in Njomona township within Zambia Sugar Estate.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka confirmed the occurrence to Byta FM News, stating that the fire developed from a mechanical fault on the Toyota Hiace vehicle.

The bus was being driven by 27-year-old Simon Moonga from the Mukokomba area, who was dropping off the pupils in their respective residential areas after school hours.

Daka reported that all the occupants managed to get out safely, although the bus was destroyed by the fire.

SUNSHINE ROAD ACCIDENT CLAIMS TWO MAZABUKA BUSINESSMEN

Two Mazabuka-based businessmen have died in a fatal road traffic accident near the Sunshine area while returning from Lusaka with orders.

The victims have been identified as Emmanuel Chishimba, who operated a boutique at Town Market bus stop, and Mike Soma, a taxi driver popularly known as β€œStar Boy.”

The accident occurred when Soma lost control of the Toyota Runex vehicle they were traveling in due to over-speeding, causing it to overturn.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, confirmed the incident to Byta FM News.

Chishimba died on the spot, while Soma was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mazabuka General Hospital after sustaining fatal head injuries. Daka noted that the vehicle was extensively damaged due to the impact of the accident.

It is with deep sorrow that I share the news of the passing of Robert Kalukango. Robert was tragically struck by a car on the opening day of Mulungushi University, resulting in his untimely death. He resided in Kaleya Station Mazabuka.

Robert will be remembered for his kindness and the positive impact he had on those around him. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
