CHIPATA CITY COUNCIL FC OFFICIAL STATEMENT
29 May 2026
Chipata City Council FC wishes to inform its members, supporters, and the general public that Club President, Maxwell Kasonkomona, has officially confirmed that he will not contest in the upcoming club elections after serving in office for two years.
Kasonkomona stated that his decision has been made based on personal and best reasons. Despite stepping down, he reaffirmed his unwavering support for the club, saying, “I will always remain a Chipata City Council FC supporter. My journey with this team started in 2012 as a fan, and that will never change.”
He joined the club leadership in late 2020 and was appointed Team Manager shortly after, a position he held until 2024. During his tenure as Team Manager, the club successfully survived relegation twice. In 2024, he was elected Club President and went on to lead the team to remarkable success.
Reflecting on his time in office, Kasonkomona said, “Together with my executive, we achieved our objectives — from fighting relegation battles to winning the 2024/25 Provincial Division One League, and earning promotion to the ZPL National League.”
He further added, “In the 2025/26 ZPL National League season, the team showed great resilience and managed to compete while successfully maintaining its status in the league.”
Kasonkomona emphasized that he remains committed to football and will continue contributing to the sport through a podcast series, where he will share insights and experiences from his journey with the club. “We will also run a series highlighting how the club moved from relegation struggles to becoming champions,” he said.
He has urged the club’s management and stakeholders to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in line with the club constitution. “Let eligible candidates contest and eligible members vote. I will fully support whoever is elected as the new Club President together with their executive,” he stated.
Kasonkomona expressed his gratitude to the people of Eastern Province for their unwavering support during his time at the club, noting that “your support has not gone unnoticed and will always be appreciated.”
Although he is stepping down from his current role, he confirmed that he remains actively involved in football, saying, “I am still in football full-time, but I have chosen to take a different path in my football management journey.”
Chipata City Council FC extends its sincere appreciation to Maxwell Kasonkomona for his dedicated service and leadership and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors. The club also wishes incoming executive members success as they prepare to take the team forward.
